Not a bad game. Very simple design, easy to follow. Graphics are simple but smooth.
the bad outweighs the good IMO though:
-levels are too similar there is hardly any variation in design of textures
-rpg levelling mechanic is forced; no choice in how to develop your characters is given.
-the standard tried-and-true mechanic of dodging using square movement in every other dungeon crawler has been changed so if you try to move away to take a ranged shot, or even to the side, every character takes massive damage. this is really what killed it for me. it forces the player into basically buidling only certain kinds of characters, and ranged doesn't do well since it both takes forever to reload, and you can't move away from your taget to shoot.
-I can live without a storyline, or basically any interaction at all... but I woudln't do it if there was a choice between a game like this with a story (and there are plenty) and one without.. which is this one.
for an indie game, it's not terrible, but very much not to my liking.
. Nice game, I must be close to the end but I will surely give a try to a different group.
I liked the fact that these things that can be boring in this genre are removed :

Now it is not Grimrock, but it does not pretend to, good job.. Was just getting into it then realised I was being punished for trying to actually play the game.
If you try any kind of combat movement (unless you call standing on the spot and hoping for the best the only worthwhile tactic) you take a fair bit of added damage.
Isn't that supposed to be part of the fun with these games, manouvering to a good position, dodging, even luring enemies into a room or trap? Not to mention you should have the option to flee if necessary.
First time I've ever played this type of game where none of that is viable and all you're "supposed" to do is spam from a single position.
So for that reason alone I can't recommend this title for fans of the genre.. I needed 10h for my 1st playthough in Hard difficulty. I chose this game because I was looking for an old fashioned dungeon crawler after having recently finished a similar game (Fall of the Dungeon Guardians), and was not disappointed, and will leave positive review (6.5/10). It cannot fully compete with LoG1+2 or other Indie gems like Fall of the Dungeon Guardians...
My most important complaint... way too little monsters... I killed all monsters, and did not even get the "kill 100 monster achievement!", it was less than 80! Not only is that a no-go as an achievement hunter to require multiple parties/sessions, but it was also just too little to do! I would at least 2-3x the monster content!!! There was one particular level (minotaurus), which had only exactely 1 monster in it... and the one before appeared without any monsters until the very end of that level...in other games the monster count is more like 500!
The game was too short... only 8 levels (the game mentioned before had 20, each larger than here, and same price tag!)
Be aware that in this game, you are taking the tanking approach (unlike LoG)... several reviewers seemed to be annoyed by it, I actually prefer it that way... and the actual first crawlers all worked like that (as it was turn based movement, there was no escaping or side-tracking monsters back then)
It is often compared to the big crawlers of today, LoG1+2... rightfully so, and yes, this game cannot keep up.... they have more traps, more dungeon levels, pressure plates, throwing items/stones, teleports, outdoor area, more monsters and monster types... so there is plenty to still improve on, but all that still makes this a good game, its just not in the same league.
The music was nice, as was the atmosphere of the game. So in summary a nice first attempt, worth at a 50% discount (which is normally and often happening during sales at Steam), but needs to improve to be able to compete with the champions, but also some other Indie crawlers! Looking forward to a 2nd part!. There is no story, no goals... just get to the next level... it gets boring after a while.. I finished this game on hard, was challenging. It is simple but addicting. But i recommend only for those who like dungeon crawlers (like legend of grimrock 1).. Short story: I recommend the game! It is a bug free, solid but light dungeon crawler experience which you will have fun with to the end. Don´t expect any control over character progression. There is no choices or skill trees. You are automatically give all at level up. Great graphics and fast loading.

. I buy just about all these dungeon crawler games since Grimrock gave me nostalgia done right. I have to say that this is the best executed one since Grimrock II. Most games in this genre fall a bit flat in their user interface through some sort of annoying bit that eventually makes you quit the game because it's just not pleasant. This game not only has the best user experience since Grimrock, it devs also took the care to make every floor of the dungeon unique feeling as well as having some self referential jokes that can get a smirk. Level 1 is learning to play and equipping yourself, level 2 did something I feel was totally unique in the genre, level 3 is an actual maze, I cannot wait to see how the rest of the game plays out.
My only critiques / tips are that the secret door bricks are too hard to spot, so you need to bring a rogue to point them out. Most games you can rely on your RL passive contrast sensitivity to pick up on bricks that shouldn't be there.
Also spell casters have to equip a spell to their hand, which makes casting more than one spell in battle unworkable. There could be an argument for this, but the counter argument is that it means most of the spells will literally never be cast. Cure poison sure would be nice in battle, but there's no time to get to it so just heal through it. No point casting it after battle, the effect will wear off soon and you can again heal through it. I greatly recommend the devs maybe put three smaller buttons on top of spell caster portraits that we can equip spells into.
Anyway, dumb name, dumb story, they know it, they embrace it, great game. Highly recommend if you dig the genre.
