America's third political party, the New Founding Fathers of America, comes to power and conducts an experiment: no laws for 12 hours on Staten Island. No one has to stay on the island, but $5,000 is given anyone who does.
"The First Purge" tells the story of how the Purges began, which events lead to their creation and how the very first Purge took place.

I like that the movie sticks to realism rather than finding some supernatural excuses, which is quite rare for a horror movie. I find the plot itself to be quite thought-through, not necessarily realistic or logic but with some nice twists and politics. What I didn't like that much is that parts of the movie almost seem like some comic adaption, with a superhero eliminating dozens of well-trained mercenaries, that was just action movies at their worst. But otherwise I felt well entertained and that's what this movie is all about to be honest.

All in all this is one of the better Horror movies, even though you shouldn't expect something game-changing. If you are willing to just be entertained without questioning the plausibility all too much, this could be a film for you. Now I don't know about this particular episode in the series, but I could actually wish this wasn't just a movie. I think our government might just consider making this a reality. Not exactly for the reasons displayed within the movie, but still. I'm not exactly espousing we have a legal hunting day for people, well I kind of am. But it would give those frustrated citizens who obey the Nations laws 364 days of the year a chance to put a little civilization back into society. So I will see this when I can rent it, but in the meantime, I give it 6 stars because the others were pretty good.
The First Purge is every bit as nakedly, hysterically symbolic as its predecessors. But if there’s one thing that the current political climate is teaching us, it’s that a subtle touch isn’t always the solution.
