About This Game

Terroir is a 3D tile-based tycoon game where you manage your very own vineyard. In Terroir, you grow a variety of different grape varietals, craft your wine, and expand and manage your Estate. You'll also have to deal with factors such as weather and random events, which can either make or break your business.

Features

Some of the game's features and mechanics include:

Choose from a selection of different grape varieties, each with their own demands.
Dynamic weather system reflecting the unpredictability of real world climate.
Each complete playthrough lasts 60 in-game years, but Players can continue playing without contributing to their final score.
Craft wine through the game's 4 winemaking processes: Crushing, Fermentation, Pressing and Ageing. Each type of grape needs to be crafted a certain way to achieve the best results, so you'll have to learn and master each one.
Start out with a single planting tile, then expand your Estate to up to 33 tiles, using 6 different tile types. Some tiles affect the ones around it, so placement is key.
Customize your estate with ambient items.
CHANCE & CIRCUMSTANCE: Terroir's random event and mission system. Players can open the Mystery Box and choose between CHANCE (a random event that could either have a positive or undesirable outcome) or CIRCUMSTANCE (a mission that a Player completes for rewards, or gets penalized for failing).
Join Wine Awards for a chance to earn bonuses to your wine's value and your Estate's renown.
Clean, minimalist design and gorgeous low-poly 3D models.
Original soundtrack composed and performed by Singapore's CLARQuinet ensemble.

This really fills a void in the tycoon/simulation genre. The art style is fantastic, and the game play mechanics are fairly polished out of the gate. Make sure you watch the tutorial videos before diving in, otherwise you'll go bankrupt in a hurry with no recourse (financial elements like bank loans aren't implemented at release).

With some bug squashing and implementation of a more robust financial system, this one looks like it has long-term play/replay value.. nice game and developers updating often.. Picked this up in the Steam sale and whilst it does appear to be a little lacking in features, it is quite fun to play - especially on the rare occasions when you manage to produce a 5 star vintage and rake the cash in! I do hope that the developers keep updating the game though as I feel that the replay value at the moment may be a bit low.. A fun challenging sim game. Learning abou the wine making process is very interesting also.. Really like this game a lot, can't stop playing it, and it helps if you like wine!. A beautiful and unique take on the managment sim genre.

With the things I learned from Terroir, I feel like crushing some grapes.... It opens up once you figure out how to make perfect wines, increase profits and afford the expensive upgrades and research. But it can take a while to get there and you're not actually doing a whole lot on the way. I try to pin down the wierd mix of casual but difficult in the full review[oldgrizzledgamers.com]. It's not a full tycoon, management or business sim. Dealing with foilage is really the bulk of the game.

Once you do expand the winemaking choices are more interesting but the interface really fights you and becomes clicky and frustrating. The automation tools that are supposed to help don't work well. It's in effect giving a harsh penalty for growth which is the thing that might have kept my interest a bit longer.

There's satisfaction in making good wine but for me it's not enough to endure the boring or frustrating parts although I could see why others might like it. Non-recommendation unless you like things very slow paced or are really into wine.. It's a decent idea, but it just doesn't come together. Three issues:
-The conditions are dramatically beyond your control, meaning that this game plays itself more than you play it.
-The wine tastings seem to be very arbitrary, or at the very least the requirements and judgements are very poorly detailed to the player.
-As someone who works in the wine industry, I would really have liked to this to me more accurate to winemaking, but it's not even close. Knowing what grape characteristics you want in real world grapes is actually a detriment in this game.
So sadly despite the novel idea I can't recommend Terroir.. It said that it was a tycoon game, should be listed as a rogue-lite. The economy in this game is worse than that of the economy after 2008. Do not buy this game until they fix the economy in this game.. It's a simple-looking game with some tricky concepts to get through.
Getting wine ranks to grow under optimal conditions can be a chore, and I'll admit I'm not good enough to stop going bankrupt after three-or-four years.
May need some configurable starting conditions (like extra money, lower upkeep, higher sale rates) to make the game easier. It could be a good casual game if not for the difficulty keeping crops going at the optimal quality rating.

I'm bothered to no end by the Tutorial link in the menu loading up my web browser to show a list of youtube videos. Really needs an in-game solution with a playable tutorial rather than the dryly-voiced youtube videos.

At the moment the game locks up in fullscreen mode, but works fine in windowed mode. Hoping the devs can track that down soonish.
