About My Lovely Daughter

My Lovely Daughter is a game about overcoming the loss of a loved one through forbidden alchemy experiments ... and murder. You are Faust, an amnesiac alchemist and father, who wakes up alone and confused only to discover that your lovely daughter has died. As you enter the first stages of grief, you do what everyone wishes they could do but can’t: bring back the dead with the power of alchemy.

To revive your daughter, you must perform forbidden alchemy experiments to restore her soul. You will have to create dozens of homunculi, raise them as if they were your own daughter, build relationships with them ... and then murder them to harvest their souls!

To support your experiments, you will also need to assign jobs to your homunculi, even sacrifice their bodies in order to sell their remnants, all to keep your income flowing and your research progressing. Perhaps, along the way, you will even recover your own memories and come to understand how this terrible situation came about.

I know many people seem to have a problem with this game (moral and gameplay wise) but I have to admit that this game has been quite entertaining so far.

Pros:
- The art style is really really nice!
- Variety of "daughters" you can make (Which are all interesting! Nice designs and interactions)
- It's not too short
- Story is pretty fine (It's nothing spectacular, but I enjoyed it)
- Quite a few "endings"
- Interesting dark setting

Cons:
- Somewhat repetitive (Gameplay wise)
- Grinding, I guess? (I personally don't mind it, but some might have an issue with that)
- Getting to certain endings can be... hard... and might take some time
- If you don't like dark stuff and you are sensitive, you won't like this game

It all depends on if you like these types of games. I personally enjoyed the game a lot and would recommend it.. I love this game. I love it. The artwork is beautiful to me and so is the music. I like the theme, but remember it's a GAME. I wasn't sure I would like it after reading some of the not so recommending reviews, so I tried the demo first, I was hooked. Is it repetitive? Yes. Honestly if you don't like repetitiveness then this isn't the game for you. If you do not like macabre themes then don't play this game. If you cannot play a game for the joy of just playing and enjoying a game then this is not the game for you. However, if you can play a game and let it be a game in whatever theme you enjoy and you enjoy the macabre, point and click games, then get this game!. My Lovely Daughter was bought for me by my girlfriend and while I don't spend much time on it, it does have an enthralling plot you can unlock! Along with so many "cute" designs for daughters, it really does make for a fun game.. Pretty dark story line, but still keeps your curiosity going with all of the different homoculus you can get, and getting all of the achievements isn't so bad either... would definitively recommend to people who don't mind a little questioning of morals, especially when it comes to what you're going to do with the poor homonculi.... its a rather unsettling game well i dont want to call it a game its more or less a really unsettling management simulator. its a little creepy but not scary but it really tugs at your supposed moral heart strings. so you have no memory but you find a souless husk in a room with a soul in a fire place and apparently its your daughter. now you have to create little girls that will gain feelings and make money and then kill them in horrific ways to feed there acquired essence to your daughters soul to bring her back. like if you grow attached to virtual creatures well one you probably shouldnt play this and two thats kinda sad. im not saying im hollow and heartless but at the same time i dont really have any emotional attachment to binary code. i would recommend a play but i like the fact you create a bunch of different creatures.
i mean its a good concept right personal sacrifice for a greater goal. but i just dont think its done well with this. for one you have to kill way to many of the little people if you actually wanna make good money or get the really go essence like i can compare this to really making hats in tf2 from scrap right. 3 scrap or low quality ingredients makes 1 medium quality or 1 reclaimed and then 3 reclaimed makes 1 refined or 1 high quality basically if you want to make a decent creature that will be worth anything you need to basically murder 27 low quality creatures to make 1 high quality creature which takes way to long to do and plus isnt worth doing because it would probably fill the bar by the time you actually got it.

tldr basically very interesting concept but not much of a game you make people send them to places and then kill said people. personally i rather invest a lot time into one of the creatures and live happily with them and let the daughter die.. It's got some style going for it and the mystery of what's going on is compelling enough to keep you interested for awhile....but not long enough. The game really has some intersting ideas but unfortunately the core of this game is really just clicking through a serious of jobs in town in order to collect money to advance the story. It's a really weak mechanic that would be annoying if it were a much smaller part of the game but as it is it takes up about forty to sixty percent of your playtime (rough guess really because honestly it feels like it takes about 90) it becomes an anchor that makes this sink down to a slog of repetition that's not worth anyone's time.

If the (or one of the) core concepts of a game is flawed this badly it wastes all the time and care that's put into aesthitics, story, and thematic elements. It's really a damn shame because those elements where deserving of a much better game than they got. For $13.49 US I feel like I deserved a better game than I got as well.

3/10. The story is interesting and I love the art style!
Recommended when you just want to chill and kill time. If you pick the "good" option because you genuinely like being the good guy, this game is going to force you to make some hard choices.
If you form relationships with characters easily, this game is going to do its best to make you hate Faust's guts.
If you find yourself thinking like Faust while playing the game, then it's too late for you. At least you might be able to save your daughter.... great story, beautiful art :)
and those screaming voices really gave me chills.

We are currently working on adding controller support for My Lovely Daughter and fine-tuning some aspects of the game. We have just opened an access to the beta build of My Lovely Daughter so that you can try out the update before we push it to the public main branch.

Current beta update:

Added controller support (Xinput: e.g. Xbox One or Xbox 360 joystick)
Our composer has fine-tuned most of the BGM and SFX
Added new villagers art, their expression will respond accordingly based on request results

You can try out the beta build by right-clicking the My Lovely Daughter application in your Steam Library. Left-click Properties, then choose the "Betas" tab. Choose "public-beta" from the drop-down menu then close the window.

Thank you for your feedback for the controller support - beta version of My Lovely Daughter. The feature is now available along with other additional small improvements on the latest version of the game (Ver. 1.06). Here’s the complete list of changes:

Added Homunculus interactions when Faust spends time with them.
