Crockett and Tubbs are working on nailing a Bolivian drug dealer. When something goes wrong at the meeting, the Bolivian loses something very important to him and he won't deal until it's returned to him. They discover that an old man who was at the meeting has it. He tries to sell it back but the Bolivian won't agree to that. One of his people tries to get it back but the old man proves to be tough. Crockett and Tubbs offers to act his intermediary but the old man insists on being involved. They later learn that the old man is a Texas Ranger.
Shortly after this episode begins an undercover cop is killed by a drug dealer known as 'The Bolivian'. Crockett and Tubbs arrange to meet with this Bolivian in their undercover personas but things go wrong and an innocent security guard is killed; to make matters worse, in the confusion, the Bolivian's briefcase with two kilograms of cocaine inside goes missing and he refuses to deal until it is found. It turns out that it was picked up by an old man and he wants a 'finder's fee'. As the investigation continues it turns out that he used to be a cop and not just any cop; a Texas Ranger. Of course cops can turn bad so Crockett and Tubbs can't risk telling him that they are cops.

This was a good story with plenty of action and a poignant ending; as others have said it does have its faults though. There was clearly a change in the planned episode order as Sonny is still driving his black Ferrari and that was blown up several episodes ago! The shootouts are also somewhat unbelievable; heroes can hit a moving bad guy with an old six-shooter but villains toting machineguns can hardly hit anything! Oh well that makes for an exciting scene without having to replace the main cast! Guest star Willie Nelson does a fine job as the aging Texas Ranger and a young Steve Buscemi does well in his relatively small role. Considering Crockett's black Ferrari Daytona was blown to smithereens in episode 2 it's hard to explain how it shows up in this episode. Zito's beard appearing and disappearing from one episode to the next was an issue before, but this one takes the cake.

Another issue that's really getting under my skin are the A-Team like shootouts where the bad guys couldn't shoot straight to save their lives. One of the greatest strengths of Miami Vice was it's realism, but with more and more studio sets and silly shootouts popping up, I'm starting to lose respect for this series as I revisit it for the first time since I was a kid.

All in all, this is decent episode with a great cameo by Willie Nelson.
