Story is shallow and doesn't go anywhere. Mostly just a vehicle for its kitsch aesthetic. Would benefit massively from a skip scene function, I do not need to see burly bearded men walk on the ocean or side scroll 20 times. Play Reigns or 80 Days if you want a deep and interesting chose your own adventure style indie game.. While this game is at first charming, it sours quickly over the course of it's short playtime. Many endings recycle the same cutscenes, which, while entertaining on first viewing, feel unbearibly long upon repeat occurences. Because this game is more of a visual story, you can get a nearly identical, if not much improved experience (by virtue of fast forwarding) of the game by watching a playthough on youtube.
. how is this fun? 1/10. A gorgeous interactive storybook. Finding all stories is a must, but even so it is a very short experience: 1.5-2 hours most I'd say. Still, the beautiful art and music, fun sense of humor, and real sense of adventure (genuinely unexpected twists in the story) make this a recommend. Overall, Burly Men at Sea is a very whimsical and yet serene game; if not worth the full asking price here on Steam, it is surely worth every 50 cents and more from the Humble Bundle. It does some genuinely innovative and unique things too, which I won't spoil, but I thought would have been fantastic to experience with a kid.. First impressions of the game are that it's a mobile port, which is not necessarily a bad thing. It has a clean and minimalistic asthetic with all sounds made by voice. It's a fun click through game so far and I'd highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys the genre.
