Graphics are not as good as expected at all. Controls are terriblly placed and executed. Game works fine but it lacks its final "should have" spent more effort upping the graphics and gameplay interactions and controls during development.. The good: - System Designs are well thought out, robust, and add depth to the game. - Concept is great: Squad/Small Fleet in space (been waiting for something like this for awhile). The bad: - The art style falls into that awkward category of games that look old but don't pull it off in some charming way. - Character portraits look like they were made in EVE Online in 2003. - It's difficult to get into without going through the tutorial which is bland and more or less like reading a manual. The ugly: - Precise navigation feels impossible. I can only guess I'm doing something wrong, whether in map mode or in 3d space, I can't seem to get my ships to arrive at the right x,y,z coordinates without major headaches. - Interaction with objects is difficult as well. Non-ship interactible objects seem to be the worst offenders. - NPC Ships can (and will) follow you across the map. While I don't generally mind that idea, it only leads to frustration. One time I was trying to read quest text, and a bunch of little drones were swarming me, so I bolted away, then started reading the text again. They followed and blew me up. Several hours lost since my previous auto save. Another time I had traveled to the main space station. I was docked with it, changing loadouts when I was attacked and destroyed by. Well I have no idea what it was, but it wasn't fun. Final thoughts: - I'd be more excited about the game if it were early access so the "ugly" issues could get addressed, I don't feel this game reached the quality level that you would expect for an actually released title. (indy or not) - If you can get over the old-style art and initial learning curve, there could be dozens of hours of fun. - If the game were $10 I'd probably give it a thumbs up, but only for those who are system design nerds and/or are into sci-fi ship management.. I am going to start this review off with a bit of disappointment and some praise. This game could have been extremely fun. It has so many wonderful things, that you could say were borrowed from other games, that the Dev added to his game, that really brought life to the game. I love so many things about this game, from the leveling up of captains, using skills and perks (Very similar to Fall Out's skills and Perk system btw) to the ability to hack other ships to disable them, and using drones to fight or just board them and take command of them. You can train your crew, increasing the bonus they provide to your ship. You get so many options on weapons, and different options for system modules, like drone controllers, cargo bays and different bridges or A.I. With all these things, you really must be asking, why don't I recommend this game, right? Well in it's current state, the game is unplayable for me. I have literally spent more time in loading screens, saving and loading the game, than I have playing it. The bugs are plentiful, and game breaking at this point. I lose ship modules such as the bridge on my starting ship, and the power plant on the cruiser I purchased. My engines randomly stop providing thrust to my ship, the game decides to turn off my weapons for no reason, even though I have enough power for them. My fleet screen goes blank, so I cannot turn the weapons systems back on as well. The ships refuse to take orders at times, and the game decides to stop auto following a ship you double click on. The drones also decide not to return to the ship all the way, they just sit outside running into the ship, so I cannot launch more, nor do I get the supplies they were sent out to retrieve. Also loading a save with drones outside the ship, often times removes those drones from the game, so you lose them for good. I wish the game did not have so many bugs, nor such devistating bugs. At the moment, I am stuck between praising the dev for the ingenuity for making such a neat game, and cursing him for frustrating me to no end, causing me to spend more than half my time reloading my save, hoping my ships will follow my move orders, that my drones will return to my ship, that the ship I just boarded and captured, will let me sell it at the space station. I am about ready to give up on this game until some serious fixes come down the pipe-line. I know the dev is a one man show, but that is no excuse. If you can't handle putting out a quality product that is not broken, then don't put out the product at all. You lose the one thing that you cannot fix so easily, and that is your credibility, and right now, this dev is just about all out with me. EDIT 10/26/2015: Upon the request of the dev, I gave this game another shot, after the most recent round of patches, that he said fixes the problems with the game. I played for about an hour and a half, and it crashed to desktop twice in that time, which was quite an improvement over the last few times I had played the game. But I crashed to the desktop twice, in under two hours. That is much better sure, but it shouldn't be crashing at all. The movement system is still very clunky, and the captains still decide to ignore your move commands sporatically. Well at this point in time, with the bugs reduced to an unhealthy couple, as opposed to a cancerous truck load like before. I can recommend this game now, and if the dev keeps his word to continue to bring improvements to the game, then it should only get better from here.. Rather learn the "UI" in the cockpit of the Boing 737, instead playing this game (again).. Gameplay is not straight forward, tried twice and I can't even move the ship without lots of tutorials and etc. If you want to expend hours learning to play, maybe is a good game, but if you want a casual Sci-Fi game, it is not the case.. The game is very fun. It's got a high level of challenge for me. Fight or flight is a real thing. Wanted to post this since I noticed it's a single developer game and wanted to show support. I've got one night in the game so far and haven't progressed very far. I'm tinkering with taking over ships, trying to expand my fleet. We'll see how that goes! I've upgraded my starter ship a bit which is working out well. Solid game - really like the RTS style control. It reminds me of Homeworld combined with X.. Refund requested. At the main menu, I click "Start Game" and it crashes to desktop every time with a memory error. Of course the tutorial works just fine-- good thing I didn't even see that button until after the first crash.. Well this review is going to be short. Pros -Great artwork on the opening screen Cons -Menu Buttons are visable but show no text to explain what they are. -Had to force close the game because I couldn't see the menu selections -Couldn't get past the menu screen without clicking blindly. -Finally clihed the right button and selected my charater. Same thing again interface boxes are blank.
