HID & LED grow lights, which is better?

First of all, I believe everyone has noticed more or less that in recent years, growers have been hesitant between HID and eco farm led lights. The grower will consider the output, power consumption and the cost of the equipment.

Which grow light is the most effective? HID vs LED grow lights! Let's take a closer look.

HID plant growth light

The acronym HID stands for High Intensity Discharge. These lamps are known for their impressive light output and brightness. I have seen these used in the world's largest and best business growth. The lamps used for commercial development today are modernized versions of gas lamps used for hundreds of years. The lamp is made of a special gas-filled bulb with two electrodes inside. The arc creates an arc from one electrode to the other, and interacts with the gas in the bulb to produce bright light.

Nowadays, HID lamps have many forms, but the two important forms are metal halide (MH) and high pressure sodium (HPS). The blue full spectrum led grow light produced by metal halide lamps is most suitable for use in the vegetative phase of the plant growth cycle. The bulbs will produce more golden yellow, which is best for the flowering period, but still effective during the vegetative period.

There is a sub-category of metal halides called ceramic metal halide (CMH) growth lamps. These are also HID plant growth lights, but they use one or two special CMH bulbs, each of which is usually 315 watts. These lights emit an impressive spectrum and replicate natural sunlight better than any light I know of.

LED plant light

The light-emitting diode (LED) growth lamp is actually a grid composed of hundreds of individual LED chips. These chips are called diodes, they can produce a specific narrow color range,

Any single chip will only produce a specific color, including blue, red, ultraviolet, infrared or any other color. They are usually combined in a specific way to maximize the spectrum they produce.

When diodes are combined, they seem to be able to create any color for our eyes due to the way the light colors are mixed. However, as you can see in the photo above, LED grow lights are usually displayed as purple, the light produced by LEDs is not as intense as HID, and more LEDs are needed to get the same output as HID lights. Similarly, the LED grow lights need to be kept very close to the canopy.

Even so, LED lights are still known for their efficiency and lower operating temperature. Compared with HID, LED lights consume less energy.

So which plant growth light is better?

In fact, to really say which is the best commercial led grow lights , it is not as straightforward as you think. Each type of lamp has clear advantages and disadvantages. When we talk about HID and LED grow lights, we can take a look at their main differences. This information may make you more aware of how to choose the best growing lamp for you.

LED grow lights produce less heat than HID grow lights, and LED grow lights with similar power to HID grow lights produce much less heat. This means you will not spend too much energy on air conditioning. Make them grow better in smaller hidden spaces.

On the other hand, DimLux is equipped with NanoTubes HID planting lights, such as 1000 watt HPS and 630 CMH with square wave. NanoTubes is DimLux's proprietary cooling system, which uses a separate air system to directly extract the hottest air from the growth lamp.

LED grow lights use less air conditioning

When energy consumption becomes the main problem of your planting operation, LED planting lights will truly stand out. Since they require less cooling, they can greatly reduce energy consumption compared to traditional HID plant growth lights.

This makes them a very advantageous option for long-term operation under appropriate conditions.
