Does not play normal Blu Ray movies. That is to say, you can't buy a Blu Ray movie, put it in your Blu Ray drive, and play it with this media player. A complete waste of money, as it just uses the FFMPEG codecs. VLC is an easy replacement for this.. Utterly useless, plays hardly any video files at all. Free players like VLC run rings around this piece of junk.. have most player need to play a video\/audio with codec & update download manager built in. dont have to download some stupid codec pack anymore. Only 13 minutes of usage in Steam, but this is my main video-player ever since I bought it.

Zoom works like a lot of free players, but the smoothing of movie is where it excells. Playing MP4 files with ZOOM compared to WinAMP and MS Media Player *blegh* is a difference between having a smooth playback and blocks from time to time.

Only problem I think is configuration. Somehow the settings have been made way too complicated, even when it comes to simple stuff like 'play all videos from start' are hard to find.... have most player need to play a video\/audio with codec & update download manager built in. dont have to download some stupid codec pack anymore. If you are serious about video playback, and need to tweak and customize how video is played then Zoom Player is definitely for you. Sure, VLC and MPC play "everything" and are free. But honestly - their user interface is a mess, it's hard to figure out where to customize playback and settings. They work fine for a basic user who just wants to play a file, but lacks a lot in the options and features.

Zoom Player has a ton of features, while making it easy to find the basic settings. The Advanced menu is huge, and it also has a search function to easily find the settings you want which is a huge bonus.

The intergrated Install Center allows you to download all the codecs you need to play 99% of all video out there: LAV Filter, FFDShow, MadVR, AC3filter and so on. There's no need to download those huge and confusing "codec-packs" that in my experience just mess up your playback.

There's a free version as well, available on the developer site, and it does basically everything the Steam version does, but you get some extra features here, and you are supporting a quality product (which IMO is important as well).

The most lacking feature might be the network streaming, like VLC has. But then again VLC was built from the ground up to be a networked media player.

I've been using Zoom for years now, and it outclasses all the other media players I've tried.

Personally I'd rather get it from the developers themselves, but having it in Steam is a nice addition.

Since Zoom Player version 11 was released nearly two months ago, we invested most of the time in enhancing usability, improving stability, fixing bugs and optimizing the code to squeeze out more performance.

But of course, this would not be Zoom Player if the new version did not include some cool new features!

The biggest feature in version 11.1 is the long requested support for Direct3D Pixel Shaders scripts when using MadVR as the video renderer.
Pixel Shaders are image processing scripts that are applied in real-time using GPU (display card) processing power.
You can now create your own pixel shader presets and switch between presets in real time using keyboard macros or through the options dialog.

If you are using a remote control device, you can now use the Play and Stop functions within the fullscreen navigation interfaces to start playback (bypassing the mini-menu in media library thumbview mode) and close the navigation interface.

I also took the time to update the Event Ghost PC System Automation tool Zoom Player plugin to include all the new functionality introduced in recent versions of Zoom Player all the way up to version 11.1. I can personally recommend Event Ghost, I use it myself to interface a remote control with Zoom Player.

* Enhanced fullscreen navigation experience

With DirectShow, Zoom Player now supports playback of YouTube 1080p/1440p/4K/8K DASH streams. With the YouTube IFRAME player, you can now specify the preferred streaming quality and use an interactivity mode which enables mouse clicks to interact with YouTube's widgets and thumbnails. Non-English searches using the YouTube media library plugin now work correctly.

* User eXperience Enhancements
The media library category thumbnail text is now easier to read with better background contrast, You can now instruct Zoom Player to seek to key-frames for faster (less accurate) seeking, Hot Mouse tracking and click logic on the main fullscreen navigation interface was changed to be more consistent with other interfaces.

* Windows 10 Creators Edition
In Windows 10 Creators Edition, Microsoft changed large fonts anti-aliasing (reduces font blockiness) to the higher-quality ClearType Algorithm. As a result, drawing each line of text took 10 times longer and compounded in real life usage to x50-x100 slower screen updates.

As a work around, a new setting (Adv. Options / Fullscreen Navigation / Customization - Anti-Aliasing) has been introduced to control the anti-aliasing mode used when drawing navigation text. The new setting has the side-benefit of even faster screen updates on lower end PCs by disabling Anti-Aliasing entirely.
