Been playing for quite awhile and i have not finished a single stage. This game is hard. And i mean HARD! but it didn't stop me from playing. The entire concept is relatively new. I have never played anything like this before. Yes, it's FPS but it's not your typical FPS. You go berserk and shoot everything you see and you'll get everybody's attention and you'll drop dead in an instant. You have to do the killing methodically. Patience is a virtue in this game. P.S. Players must know chess or atleast be familiar with the pieces.. Do you like chess? Do you like FPS games? If your answer was yes to one of those questions, stay the f*** away from this game!. it is definitely original, I really like the aesthetic but it is not for everyone, not for me. There is no intro, menu, tutorial, you dont know what to do and even if you do it is little slow and get quite borring really fast.. So, basically, what you have to do here it's stand the last one. It seems like an easy task but once you start playing, you will notice that this isn't a game like others. You are a basic pawn and have no habilities. You have to "kill" your mates in order to reach a higher level/piece and get higher skills. But add to this task the fact that your mates doesn't allow you to attack others in the same way that others wont attack you. This makes you stealth and wait for a good oportunity to enter in the body of the others pieces. Graphically the game looks kinda nice. The atmosphere and maps gives you a calm gameplay where you can think your strategy without rush. There is no frustrating music or anything that could distract you. If you are searching a different game to spend some hours thinking, this is your game. This isn't a fast paced FPS so make sure that isn't what you are looking for when buying this game. Also, take into account that the game requires some amount of time to understand and get used to.. As has been stated elsewhere, the fact that the figures look like Chess pieces is more to illustrate a point; there is little to correlate Urja to Chess beyond the superficial. The Entities, as they're referred to, are in a hierarchy fraught with tension. You, a pawn, can only attack those in the same class as you, lest the rest of the system come toppling down on you; Call for Help is an action in-game and those above you will rally the others if Pawn gets out of line. Actually, if you wander around the (beautiful!!) maps, it's kind of rare to see hostility between the other Entities. Even if you bump shoulders with one of them, it's not all that likely they'll attack you first. It seems you are, often, a lone revolutionary, striving to break free of the caste system. If you manage to assassinate a superior, you can impersonate them. The goal is to become King (of the Hill)(as in lone survivor). That apparent hesitation in the AI to engage on their own, the necessity to aim precisely, the quickness with which Energy drains / the absolutely chaotic seconds that punctuate the long moments of nothing; veterans of "arena shooters" might have to alter their connotation of the term. I must advise other new players to view the Community Guide here on Steam, and just watch the first few minutes of the video therein, otherwise one might be quick to write the game off entirely. Perish the thought that "Oh, but it'd be fun to learn the game on my own," no, especially since, what with Urja being nothing but an arena shooter, the goal is to get as good as quickly as possible. I feel like the desire to fully glean how the game works wouldn't outlast the patience that most would have in pursuing such a goal. And if one tried and then went to the Guide, it might actually sour the experience that much more. Check the corners of the screen when the game first boots up (don't instantly hit Play as I did); know that you can charge your shots (RMB); know you can shoot while leeching (LMB); know you can't jump, but you can lean around corners; realize that that bit of political bullery I spouted earlier wasn't just bs, but actually part of the game. I recommend this game and don't think it's deserving of the Mixed user reviews at all, but I understand how the rating came to that.. I wanted to like this game, and the idea of it sounded interesting. There is a help menu that's well hidden on the splash screen, and you'll need to read it because the game doesn't offer a tutorial or any amount of help on suggesting what you should be doing and how. After I read the menu, I tried to play aggressively, and you just can't. If you attack anybody, every entity will attack you and gank you. So I tried a slower, methodical approach. I think a pawn shot me and sucked out my energy from behind and I died. Great. This whole game is a frustrating experience and not worth your time.. Pretty original artsy singleplayer arena FPS / stealth, however obscure / hardcore / not really superb it may look. The main problem I have is that it's very untrue to its premise regarding chess. In a misleading way. Not a single element, not a single mechanic of chess is being used or referenced here, not even remotely. Except for piece ranks - or actually names - but even this doesn't make any sense, as chess pieces don't follow any linear order, frankly speaking :). In a word, you could replace chess pieces with 1.6 numbers or (better) military ranks (cf. Stratego) and the game would be exactly the same. So tags "strategy" and "chess" are basically wrong. Beware.. Easy to play, but hard to beat, Urja is an addictive FPS like no other. Start a round on one of 12 maps, killing your opponents climbing your way up the heirarchal ladder as a chess piece. Sound silly? Yes. Is it silly? Yes. Is that a bad thing? Not at all.
