Holly Stonehouse followed the clues from her old family house to finally
arrive at the Dark Falls Asylum and again see that someone was there

through notes and photographs, unlocking devious puzzles and
constructing complex chains of adventure actions, help Holly escape the
night and find the answers. Was her mother crazy or was there really
another sister? Did her mother commit suicide? How could Dahlia “come
back” after the fire and who or what is the terrifying thing that Holly
saw at Heather's house and that kept following her ever since?

Excellent followup to original. Spooky, atmospheric, perfect level of challenge.. I was so excited for this game as I LOVED Part 1 which was a masterpiece; amazing tense atmosphere throughout the game, great graphics and cutscenes, incredibly intriguing storyline which was easy to follow and left me begging for the next part and a conclusion to the mystery. However, I was so so SO disappointed. I can not believe the developers had five years to work on this and this is what they came up with. I really wanted to love this game, I tried so hard to love it but I just couldn't. This game is a mess of epic proportions; let's start with the storyline, or rather the lack thereof.

The game starts off good, but as soon as Act 2 begins it all goes downhill very quickly. You find notes with information that makes no sense and you think that maybe it will start making sense as you progress in the game; nope. It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever; way too many characters are introduced without any proper backstory to them so you have no idea who or what they are and what role they play(ed), the information is given to you in small pieces at a time and does not follow a logical sequence, meaning that you can discover a note and THEN discover another note a couple hours later which gave backstory to the first note. It is extremely confusing and frustrating and leaves you wondering whether you are stupid or something as you don't understand what is going on. I had to go back several times and proof-read the diary to check if I missed something, but I hadn't. It was just the story that had massive plotholes and I was never given the "aha"-moment as to what was happening and what the story was about.

On to the graphics and atmosphere; I can't lie, some of the artwork is beautiful, but the rest of the graphics is rough on the eyes and gives me the impression of a rushed patchwork. The atmosphere from Part 1 is completely gone; you are just trodding along, trying to piece together a puzzle that lacks so many important parts. The "scary" asylum is a joke; there are some hospital beds trown over, a couple blood stains here and there and papers strewn about the place. The jump scares are cheap and predictable, none of the tense feeling that someone is watching you that was so prevalent in Part 1 is there. There is no smooth transitioning from one room to the next, the music is raggedy and you often have to click several times on an object to choose it. What little atmosphere the game acquired in Act 1 is completely and utterly destroyed by the sheer amount of grammar mistakes. There were so many times I couldn't understand what a note was trying to say, which also had a massive negative effect on the story as the information contained within didn't make any sense. It was painfully obvious it was a rushed job and after waiting for five years, I was not happy.

In conclusion, DO NOT BUY THIS GAME. It is absolutely not worth the price or the effort, you will just end up frustrated and angry because what once was a great game has turned into something completely different. There is no conclusion and you are left more confused after playing the game than you were before starting it. Rather than answer all the questions you may have, the game only serves to add even more confusing elements that didn't even need to be there. I'm not even sure if I care to find out what happens in Part 3 and I honestly can't see how anyone can recommend this game after playing Part 1. I played on Casual and I struggled to finish the game as I was so frustrated and sick of the mess this "game" is.. I was so impressed with this game. I saw a few negative reviews with complaints about bugs, but I had absolutely no problems. My only complaint is that I do not want to have to wait for part 3. Excellent job. I feel in love with the first game and waited two years for this one. I am NOT disappointed! The makers are both incredible artists as well as writers. It is totally immersive Horror tale despite it being only a point and click game. It sucks you in and wont let go as much as Outlast or another more action based Horror game but this game is more like a spooky demented fairy tale. Actually it is almost impossible to define it as it is unique. My point is, this one got under my skin, and I like it.
It has cool puzzles, not HOGs, and they are logical and clever. The only thing is in a couple of spots, the English is very slightly wrong, but it is so minor and rare I really don't care. XD
I cannot praise this game enough! If only all game makers cared about plot as much as this one does. And the imagery! Gorgeous! On top of all of that, the music is perfect. I will waits years for the next part and look forward to following Goblinz the developer in whatever game they make. I am now a lifelong fan of their work!
If you like creepy Horror. Weird Fiction etc..., GET THIS GAME NOW. but start with Part one. You wont regret it. Totally worth 10 bucks and Im so glad they went with Steam and not Bigfish who wanted them to tone it down. UGH! Welcome to Steam. Goblinz! Cant wait to see more of your stuff!

Loving this juicy, long awaited game so far!! Will edit this comment for a full review when I'm finished.. Amazing game to play! Hope they can make another one, because its so addicting game. I love this type of game like this. A point-and-click adventure game with horror elements that sends you to an insane asylum to find out what is wrong with your family.

The Good:

A HOG that doesn't have bad or meh voice acting, but good voice acting.
The game is long, especially for a HOG. Apparently the devs decided to merge content that was originally going to be extra (and there's more to come!)
Horror elements.
The story doesn't seem like an afterthought or that it's there just for the sake of being there.

The Neutral:

If you are a completionist, there are a couple of achievements that require you to complete Part 1. However, if you play Part 2 and skip Part 1, you're cheating yourself. Both games are worth the money.
Initially the game had several issues, but the devs fixed them and I was able to get 100% completion in the game.
Unlike Part 1, there aren't any hidden object scenes in the game. Personally, I don't feel this is to the game's detriment.

The Bad:

I encountered an issue where I could no longer access my inventory or interact with scenes. Restarting the game did fix this, so nothing gamebreaking and it only happened once.
There are a couple of scenes that could use more sound effects.

Pro Tips:

The devs actually listen and fix issues in the game, so share issues on the forums.
The game has a good community that is willing to help out if you're stuck or have some sort of issue.

After completing the game, it's obvious why it took the devs a while to finish this entry in the series. Part 2 was a greater effort compared to Part 1 (which is already a well-made game). This series definitely stands out, and I look forward to additional content and Part 3.. I'm glad I kept up with the updates on this sequel. I really enjoyed the first game so much, and I'm glad you're expanding it even further with a trilogy. Good puzzles and creepy atmosphere, I'm a sucker for asylums in video games so bonus points for that. I look forward to the next installment, and replaying this one.. Rly cool game, i hope the extra chapter will come soon :P i need more. Holly Stonehouse is lonely, her last single friend has married and Holly feels her chance for real love has past her by.
