About This Game

The Crown of Leaves is a hybrid of non-kinetic visual novel and point-n-click adventure, that will tell you a story about mysticism, riddles, constellations, anthro, beasts and ghosts!
Three chapters are planned for release; The first chapter has already been released - and it's here.
Every illustration, sprite, background and animation was made by the developers themselves. Most of the game music is also exclusive, and it was composed specially for the Crown. There are only four people that work on the game and non of them is professional in game development or programming. This is our first game.

Plot

Roui, a resilient city dandy, a half-educated jeweler and the author of scientific magic articles, dealt with a colossal failure and had to return to his homeland: Latori. Science isn't a thing here, and local shoddy mystical beliefs are really irritating and dejecting to Roui. He dreams to return to his old life... But how can it be possible if you have no money? One day, a prosperous local baron commissioned him for a bracelet, a gift for his lovely bride. Roui, in need of the extra coin, graciously accepted the order... But not long afterward he faced a new problem - the Mad Rook, a legendary and mysterious spirit, began to meddle in the lives of the locals, including Roui's. This spirit, an entity that plays tricks on mortals once a year, is possessed with strange magic and a dark sense of humor. Roui had no choice - he decided to gather information about the Mad Rook to find out who he really is!

Despite all the strangeness of the story, everyone can find something parallel to their everyday life and see themselves in one of the characters. This story will capture you and won't let you go until the very end. Turn your mind inside out through a twisted way!

Setting

Where is it set?
The setting is a fictional world called Shang-La, a world of mixed cultures and eras, and home to various strange creatures. This is a place of old magic and new ideas, where science works together with mysticism. You can find glasses and phones, electricity and radio here, but no guns or television. The inhabitants of this world still fight with swords. The continent they live in is surrounded by the boundless ocean. The Sun and the Moon take turns alternating in the sky, and the stars are made of metal and hiding tons of secrets in them.

Who are the Sahash?
Sahash are the second intelligent race in Shang-La, alongside humans. They are divided into five nations, differing from each other by their physicality, shape of their horns, and muzzles. Every nation has its own unique traditions and culture: ranging from habits, religion, law, and even tastes in fashion and food.
Despite the complicated relationships between these ethnic groups of Sahash, as a whole they get along with humankind, and even try to emulate them in spite of their more animalistic nature.

Best $5 i have spent on steam.. Loved it! Can't wait for chapter 2 to come out.. I personally will play a game just for its setting, and this one is certainly no exception. Despite it being a digital novel, the affects of the players' actions will have very large effects to the point that I could easily put this game on the level of a Telltale game, though the chapters to come will show if this statement holds water. The characters are all interesting and well written, the character design shows not only a high amount of effort, but a labor of love being put into them. The puzzles aren't too hard, though the crafting screen is a tad laggy. The story is really good so far, and the information given in the index fleshes out a lot of the world's details, making the strange world make a bit more sense to those unfamiliar. The dialogue really has deep effects on how the characters will treat the player later, which is a lovely thing to see in game that focus on dialogue for main source of player interactivity. For being from such a small dev team, the quantity of art and work put into this game in no way lowers the quality, and small intricate details hide themselves around every corner.

I really enjoyed this game and definitely got my money's worth from it, and I look forward to the next chapter.. Bought this game because my friend mentioned it and as I'm quite fond of visual novels I decided to check it out.

First thing that hooked me in - Graphics & Design . Although later, while playing I noticed that there could be more clarity and detail in some places, all in all the game looks absolutely amazing. The character design might not be very unique cause I've seen similar concepts before, but the way they and the backgrounds were drawn here - fabulous. Very pleasing to the eye and adds to the mood of the story and the game. The cutscenes are a bit too flashy at times, but absolutely beautiful and charming.

Background music is lovely. I just love it. Not on the Transistor level of course, but still pretty good. Music and the text sounds are a bit too loud by default, but this can be adjusted in the settings.

The game itself is a mix of point&click and a visual novel . A great combination in my opinion.

The plot so far seems very interesting, but as you are thrown in, all the concepts and terms in the game make you overwhelmed at first, but I got more familiar and comfortable with them after playing it multiple times to explore other possible choices and routs. Speaking of - the choices of actions and the dialogue actually make a difference! As in many other visual novels, you get more info about different characters by selecting different dialogue options. Choices of actions, for example when you need to choose whether to chop down or dig out that demon plant influence the story itself, by which I mean the way of reaching the conclusion of the chapter differs. although Flynn still makes a hole in Roui ;_;

Can't tell much about the cons because I have not noticed any major flaws. I could nit pick and say that

• the movement from left to right in a scene could be smoother
  
• letting the players know what the different buttons in the inventory do would be more convenient
  
• allowing players to combine items in a bit different order while crafting would save way more time

but I don't want to be very critical. Those points above could be improved on, but for me they did not ruin the experience, so it's all good. The price is also quite reasonable, assuming more hopefully free chapters are coming in the future.

. The characters are cool, the artwork is fantastic, and the story's got me interested. Looking forward to all future chapters!. i loved the demo and then buying the game had a blast playing through it; the characters,story,music and world. Took awhile because I was distracted. But wished it lasted longer the world is so immersing that all i wanted to do was jump back in and keep playing the human part caught me off guard 10/10 would support if i had the money can’t wait for the rest.. With only chapter 1 out as of now, I'm already hooked and looking forward to the next. Good characters, good writing so far, and *fantastic* artwork and setting.
