About This Game

Welcome to Broken Britannia

"Before Arthur’s Golden Age, our realm was lost, shattered and decadent; kingdoms torn apart by blind selfishness. A broken Britannia, void of hope."

The lord of Mercia has been assassinated, your love kidnapped and home is no more. As Uther, the disgraced Knight Commander, you must lead your misfit band of companions throughout quests riddled with trials. Forge uneasy alliances to acquire the mythical Excalibur sword and defeat the sinister power-obsessed duke of Wessex.

Prove your worth as a tactician by exploring all five realms and dangerous locations, such as a frozen fortress hiding a dark secret, an ancient abbey turned into a hideous torture chamber and the mystical island of Avalon. Survive ambushes and rescue those in need by making use of each hero’s abilities to solve puzzles and vanquish your foes. It is up to you define the fate of Britannia… But at what cost?

Combat in Sword Legacy: Omen is always a challenge. As a strategist, you will need to plan your course of action with four heroes at a time. However, be ready to adapt and improvise because results always change based on the chosen abilities and chances of landing an attack.

ughhh tedious. Looks great dull beyond words to play. I love XCOM and this was sold as an Arthurian XCOM "style" game. It's turn based but thats about as close as it gets to the polish of XCOM. Uninstalled very quickly.
My opinion only though.. Sword Legacy Omen is a story focused adventure with turn based combat, loosely based on the King Arthur myth. Wessex have invaded Mercia and kidnapped their princess. Meanwhile, the rest of Britannia is under threat from a plague which is creating zombie like creatures. The player controls Uther Pendragon, Merlin, and a few other characters on their quest to save the country.

Combat takes place on maps that are divided into a square grid, and each character spends action points to move and attack. The player selects four characters to take into each mission, and there are eight characters to choose from. Turn order is similar to Xcom, where the player moves all their characters together, and then all of your enemies will move.

As you complete missions you’ll earn renown points which can then be spent to acquire new abilities for whichever character you choose. Each character has eight attacks and three passives, but you can only have a total of four abilities equipped for each character. The variety of these abilities allows the combat to be tactical, and enjoyable.

Most characters can push enemies back a couple of squares, which deals damage if they hit something, and can instantly kill them if they fall off ledges. Merlin has a fireball, and he can also use a teleport to switch places with an enemy, useful for quickly moving an enemy archer into melee range for the rest of your party. Fergus, the barbarian, has an attack which, if it gets a kill, will refund those action points so you can attack again. Gwen, the thief, can throw daggers, has a chance to poison enemies, and also use a flurry attack where she just keeps stabbing an enemy until either they successfully block, or die.

If any of your characters loses all their health, they’re unavailable for the rest of the mission. After the mission, they’ll be “gravely wounded”, suffering negative stats until you rest. Fortunately, one of your characters is a priest who can heal allies during combat. You can only save at checkpoint markers, usually located about halfway through each mission, but I didn’t find this to be a problem.

The one negative that I can mention about the combat is that the AI is kind of dumb. I quickly realised that enemy archers don’t reposition if you’re out of their range, they just pass the turn. However, melee enemies will blindly follow you all the way across the map, allowing you to easily divide and conquer, rather than fighting everybody simultaneously.

When not in combat, you can explore the maps to find loot, and bits of lore, although the maps are quite small. You’ll find weapons, armour, rings, gold and potions. Between missions, you’ll occasionally visit towns where you can buy and sell loot. The story was fine, but there aren’t any dialogue choices, and there’s no way to change how the story plays out. There’s also no voice acting, apart from some cutscenes that have a narrator.

Overall I did enjoy playing Sword Legacy Omen, and I would especially recommend it to fans of the Banner Saga trilogy, if you’ve finished playing those games and are looking for something similar. It took me 11 hours to complete, so I’d say a full price purchase, or a small sale, would be fine.. overall very enjoyable game.. but i'm halfway through ( i think) and there's a gamebreaking bug at the last chapter of act II.. snooping through the forums i saw quite a few problems with that map.

i sent the devs the required files for them to work on a fix and would be happy to revisit the game and change this review to positive since i really enjoyed it up until then. :). I thought it was a great game. Just enough time to invest, before I want to move on to something else( around 30 hours). Just enough skills per character to make it interesting and varied, (6 active and 3 passive choices apiece) without giving me analysis paralysis. Just enough strategic depth to get slaughtered if I bumble headfirst into the fight, yet able to pull off a killer and satisfying level if I slow down and take it tactfully. I've seen complaints about the difficulty, I thought that was just right. For one, they dont dump health potions on you. Healing is available, but it's meted out by several different methods, and for me, that just makes the game more thrilling. I hate it when I have a heal bot, or buckets of potions, making the challenge irrelevant - thankfully, this game approaches healing intelligently and it's better for it. The Arthurian theme was interesting, and I enjoyed using all the varied characters. The art style really drew me in, I love this form of animated-looking game, it's brilliant. It's like playing thru an animated series. Yeah the story is your typical big baddie trying to take over the world, but arent they all? Doesnt bother me. The art is awesome, the tactical combat is fun. Kept me hooked!. It's Ok! if you really like the turn-based tactics.. Hello,

A dark revisiting of the rise of Uther Pendragon, in a comic-like visual graphics. Fights are tactical and brutal, and the characters are rather well balanced. I found this game to be pleasant in both mechanics and designs. Character progression is easy to grasp and empower the characters significantly, without breaking the balance of combat.
One flaw though, it is short : under fifteen hours, start to finish, and not much in way of replayability. Given the overall quality of the game, I really hope for it to be a launch for bigger games made with the same care.

Good work, and hopefully good continuation, to the devs, and enjoy to the players !
