Tough Starsky and educated Hutch are plainclothes cops taking on dope dealers, muggers and other thugs, aided by their red 1974 Torino and informant Huggy Bear. Both bachelors' private lives play as interweaving threads in the drama.
Two streetwise cops bust criminals in their red-and-white Ford Torino, with the help of police snitch, Huggy Bear.
I grew up watching this show, Bottom line no others came close to the action, Drama, and slap stick comedy all rolled into a 1 hour show.And just for the record had the coolest car sense the 60's Batman T.V. show! We all know the Torino was a stock 302cid automatic transmission car but non the less it sounded cool when it had to. And yes I saw the movie. At least when the Torino ( in the movie ) was airborne you could see it was a dual exhaust car. And if you watched the series you know that Hutch was not a " shady " cop. And lastly, in the series, Starsky and Hutch, THEY pushed around the " uniformed officers " not the other way around. as well as in the series. the Dolbey did not like Huggy Bear and never would have offered him a job
This popular show from the 1970s had a lot going for it the formula worked well about two police officers on the beat and was unique amongst police shows which were at there height during these times. The story lines were interesting and unconventional in the way the series portrayed police work through the personal rather then dutiful lives of the police team.

However there were too many cheesy and soapiest moments within the series that makes me want to laugh at it rather then be entertained by it: -

Having a Sports type car is good and fits in well with the action but the way its painted it looks more like a gloried circus car as opposed to a more formal car that can be taken seriously

The story focuses to much on the relationship between the two males and their personal lives as opposed to their experiences in being Police Officers in tackling the crime of Los Angeles at that time

The stories are mostly good but are done in a wooden or unrealistic manner and lack gritty reality which makes a Police series enjoyable though it did have good action but lacked an important ingredient Thriller

To conclude good but wooden that does not make it an enjoyable but not a good series it would of been better in my opinion if it had been an American version of The Sweeney quality and not quantity.
-In the pilot Starsky uses a 1911A1 style pistol and Hutch a Smith & Wesson .38 Special revolver. Early in the episode, while going over their checklist of items, Starsky's gun is referred to as a Beretta, but that is not what he is using. By the time of the regular series Starsky has swapped to a Smith and Wesson model 59 in 9mm and Hutch a Colt Python .357 Magnum revolver. In the first couple episodes, he used a Python with a 4" barrel and then began using a 6" Python for the remainder of the series. Previously, David Soul's vigilante cop character in the Dirty Harry film "Magnum Force' used a Colt Python with a 4" barrel. ?
