About This Game

Memoranda is a game about forgetting and being forgotten!

A point and click adventure game with magic realism elements that tells the story of a young lady who gradually realizes she is forgetting her own name. Is she really losing her memory or is there something else that could explain the strange circumstances?

The story happens in a quiet little town where a few ordinary and strange characters live together. Including a World War II surviving soldier to an elephant taking shelter in a man’s cottage hoping to become a human. There is one thing all these characters have in common: they are losing something. It could be a name, a husband or even someone’s sanity!

The story is inspired by various Haruki Murakami short stories that describe a surreal world full of lonely characters.

Backed this game on kickstarter and I'm glad that even postponed more than once, it got released. Memoranda is a point-and-click game where you help the protagonist find out her name. Based on magic realism novels and short stories of Murakami, the game does have its charm. The graphics are beautiful and the soundtrack accompanies the game perfectly. While some of the puzzles were hard to solve, I think this game did pretty well. I do wish we could speak more with the characters and inspect more random things in the environment, but all in all it was a very enjoyable experience.. Cute graphics, story, music, characters and dialogues.

I loved Memoranda so much. I don't like puzzle games actually but Memoranda is different. This game is really immersive. But I'm sad 'cause this game is underrated, I think it should be more known. Anyway, I won't talk about story, you should play and learn it! Have fun everyone.. I liked the effort made trying to link it to Murakami's stories but unfortunately it felt like it affected the gameplay too much and felt to me like the events were random and not really related to my success whilst many of the puzzles did not make sense to me and made me very frustrated.. I think Memoranda is a fresh point-and-click game mainly in terms of atmosphere, storyline, and characters. However, the setting is quite surreal and the storyline is confusing in the least of the terms. Some puzzles are very strange but I guess it's kind of ok, many good adventure games have very strange or difficult puzzles.

The locations are very unique and detailed. There are tons of very strange and bizzarre characters. It feels like most of the characters are allegories to something or social situation but I missed nearly all of them. I feel like the storyline will make more sense if you've read several Murakami books.

Pros:
- Very beatiful art direction both in terms of graphics, music, sound, and their harmony.
- Simple and intuitive mechanics
- Very different characters compared to other adventure games.

Cons:
- The story is introduced very abrutly in the beginning. Is the challenge of Mizuki finding her name or being able to sleep? It feels like the later but the game seems to focus on the former without explaining much.
- Some elements hasn't seem to be resolved at the end.
- The ending has been very confusing to me. I didn't feel a lot of closure to the storyline.. I thoroughly enjoyed playing Memoranda. It reminded me of the point-and-click adventures from several years ago. Finishing the game prompted me to read some of the short stories by Haruki Murakami.. This is a kickstarted game based on the short stories from Japanese author, Haruki Murakami. Very quickly it seems the game got dumped into the bundle mills.

The artwork and graphics are quite good but the game lacks the kind of PC graphics customisations PC gamers expect. Gameplay, however, is not so great or interesting. I can't recommend this to anyone but fans of Haruki Murakami, which makes this very much a game for a narrow niche audience.. I'm giving this a positive review with some major caveats.

This game is beautiful, and the world is quirky and amazing. But good LORD is there some serious moon-logic involved in solving most of the puzzles. I loved where it went, but I would have rather been able to intuit my way through it rather than have to look up so many spoilers, because most of the things you need to do to make the story progress just don't make any logical sense.

I give this a major thumbs-up for story, art, ambiance, production values, everything like that... and a major thumbs-down for the actual game-play. But I'd still recommend it if you can get it on sale, because as a story-telling game it's still really interesting.
