About This Game

You are Joseph Walker. After waking up in a strangely deserted science facility with no recollection of how you got there, you hear the voice of an A.I. The A.I. promises to be your guide and to help you out of the facility. However, it is clear right away that it’s not telling you everything.

Traverse the treacherous facility in search of answers, fight deadly mutants, try to stay alive, and most importantly – make the one responsible pay for all this. What secrets does this enormous facility hold, how did you get here, and why is the A.I. helping you?

Insincere is a short, story-driven FPS with simple mechanics and fully voice-acted dialogue that marks the start of a sci-fi miniseries.

Features:
  • A mysterious sci-fi setting, taking place in a giant science facility.

Well, I thought that this is going to be a complete shovelware. But well, despite using the godawful FPS Creator engine and stock assets, it still seemed that dev was there for a proper effort, putting in a story through cutscenes and using assets logically, instead of just trashing the Steam store. So I guess I can somewhat respect that, in comparison. Yep, we are that low. Of course since it uses FPS Creator the base gameplay is totally butt and I don't think that dev was a person who was into FPS core gameplay development. Clunky buggy butty. And of course it still uses stock assets so it's just bleh.

And it kept crashing or freezing every few levels, kept restarting and reloading.

As in, I still don't think it's enough effort to be on a Steam store. Many devs put many years of effort in order to create a complete game only to get not enough exposure due to Steam store cluttered with lower effort ones. So eh. So instead of expected 1/10 it's more like 3/10. Or 2/10.. I'm glad to have played this game, the visuals stay consistently interesting through the entire game, and the music will keep you company during the slow parts of the story. It’s not for everyone, but it is worth a shot. Just don’t expect Half-Life, and you might be pleasantly surprised.. While it is a classical FPS with a nice story idea, there are too many issues to really enjoy this game:

- Interact-Key is "Enter" which means you need to move one hand away from your regular controls to interact with stuff
- Sound effects are sparce and weren't placed in the 3D environment properly. On headphones this means I heard an enemy snarl on my right ear only when it was right in front of me. I can't hear my gunshots or if I actually hit the enemy. But I do hear that I'm hurt.
- The attack distance of the melee-Enemies you encounter right from the start seems off. It feels like they have arms longer than rendered and can attack you from a distance way too far away. This is only a minor thing though, since it just affects the difficulty of the game
- I stopped playing on the fourth level or so, because an enemy pushed me through the wall into the void, effectively killing me.
- After I died, I had to restart entirely, because the game does not save automatically for you. Not even upon reloading new levels. I know this was rather common back in the day, but being used to modern game mechanics it is something that should be indicated to new players.

To sum it up:
- Bad controls
- Misleading sound rendering
- Strange melee distances
- Clipping errors lead to insta-death
- No Auto-Save. Lol, this game doesn't even have an options menu, have fun playing in stretched out 800 X 600.. Runtime Error 2002 - Could not load animation at line 18315

https://steamcommunity.com/app/467000/discussions/0/357286663676211.... Insincere is a game where you play as Joe who's trying to get out of a research facility to save his life as well as the life of his loved one.

This game is a first person shooter where you are attacked by monsters made from mutations as well as a group of bad guys. There's seven different weapons, but I was able to beat the whole game with just the pistol once I got it. There's no options to change any settings of any sort, so you're stuck with the sensitivity and any other controls there are. The visuals look pretty lazily made. The "animated cutscenes" are laughable along with all of the dialogue and voice acting. There's the same few tracks of music played through the whole game.

I've encountered quite a few bugs with this game. One minor bug that's annoying is when you first enter a level, not only do you always start with the pipe (which is annoying), but when you scroll from the pipe to the pistol, you skip it and then you have to scroll back to it. It's a very small glitch, but it can be annoying, just saying. Now for the more major bugs. If you are a person like myself that likes to explore everything the level has to offer, you might end up getting yourself stuck. In one of the facilities I can't remember the name to towards level seven or so, there's some sort of dump pipe thing on the wall. I thought it'd be cool if the developer put in something in there to collect, so I went to check it out. There was nothing in there and I got stuck and had to reload my save file. One of the most annoying (but kind of fun) things to do is clip yourself out of bounds. If you can get pretty stuck in a spot, you could end up clipping yourself out of bounds. I've done it twice before by accident and I ended up falling to my death as each of the levels are floating rooms in the sky. So, word of the wise, if you find yourself jumping between computer terminals and tables, you better stop before you have to restart your save file after dying due to clipping out.

The pros I have for this game is that there's plenty of pickups to keep you alive and stocked on ammo and the ending cutscene is alright; it's the most enjoyable one of them all. The cons are all of the listed bugs above, the thing about loading into every level with the pipe, the bland visuals, sound effects, and music, the laughable dialogue and voice acting, the lag of the game when allies come into play, as well as the most annoying part of the whole game: loading each level or save file. Each load took nearly 30 seconds on my computer. These levels aren't very big and it's all basically the same copy-paste assets each level, so I don't know why this game takes forever to load each level or save file.

Anyway, stay away from this game, there's no Steam Achievements or Steam Trading Cards, so there's no external benefit to playing this game. The actual playing of the game isn't very enjoyable, so I don't recommend this game.. Insincere is such a mess. I imagine the developer as a denizen of Abbotts Flatland, attempting to come to grips with the idea of a third dimension. Maybe that explains the complete lack of options, the large weapon indicator with jagged white pixels around it as if it had just been carelessly snipped from a Soldier of Fortune magazine and glued onto the monitor, the fact that "use" key is bound to "Enter", that the, wait, Enter? Yes, you heard me. Every time you need to interact with something, you take a hand off of WASD or the mouse, your choice, and press Enter. You don't have to make games to know how bad an idea that is, you just have to play one. This one, actually.

I usually refrain from writing about bundletrash games since it's like shooting fish in a barrel, and they only cost like two bucks a dozen, but sadly, I made the mistake of actually playing this one. "It has a "mostly positive" rating" I thought. "Maybe it's actually a pretty decent game."

It is not. I feel bad sometimes for the people who make games like this. Games that end up being tossed into bundles of similar failures like fast food joints dump their grease into "inedible" barrels, sold off for pennies. But! I can only feel bad for them if they learn a lesson from the experience, and stop making games like this. I hope they do, and that, my friend, is sincere.
