“This game is a journey directly through the bowels of madness and horror” - EK Gaming

Infliction is an interactive nightmare, a horrific exploration of the darkness that can lurk within the most normal-looking suburban home.

Wander through the remnants of a once-happy family, reading letters and journals, listening to voicemails, and piecing together clues to understand the terrible events that led you here.

However, you are not alone. Something else has remained in this house, a being of infinite grief and rage. While you hunt for clues, it hunts you, waiting for its chance to unleash its anger on you.

Can you survive long enough to find atonement?

You are not alone
A restless AI enemy will be stalking you, and you really don’t want to be caught. Will you hide, or find some way to fight back?

Warped reality
Explore a realistic, interactive suburban house that gets more fractured and twisted the deeper you go.

Piece it together
Read letters, find diaries, and examine the precious mementos of a broken family to understand the terrible events that led you here.

Almost too real
The story is grounded in real-world domestic tragedy, the fears and hurts that we all know: broken hearts, betrayed trust, grief, and loss.

Light and dark
The power of Unreal renders a photorealistic environment with dynamic lights and shadows that can dazzle you or plunge you into darkness.

Choose your challenge
Standard difficulty will occasionally point you in the right direction, but in hard mode you will be on your own. d859598525

One of the few good horror games on Steam, great graphics and story.. Seriously good, extremely impressed it's developed solo. Love the use of tension, and thanks for including content warnings!. Graphics- 3.5/5
Storyline- 4/5
Horror- 5/5
---------------
As a very explorational horror game similar to Residant Evil 7, Infliction is essentially a puzzle game once you look past the horror. You can get stuck at times, but usually spam clicking everything around you or just simply taking a picture will get you through the problem.

If you're looking for a super scary game to play with your friends with the lights out. Get the game, its a no brainer for me. I could see myself playing it again.
----------------
Overall Score: 4/5. to many bugs. i often have to restart the game because suddenly objects are missing or when i pick up a phone for example and i drop it i wont be able to pick other objects. even when i am in a different room i am still picking up that phone.. Love this game. One of the few games that does horror correct. This is one of the few games that gives me a scare.

Update:
So i have been playing more of this game and still love it. i Love how it is one of the few games that does scare me. i would say if you like mystery and horror games you will like this one.. I started playing this on a whim, nearly put it down again, but decided to stick it through. I'm glad I did! While the opening sets up some kind-of tired horror tropes, the more you explore, the more you get the opportunity to experience some genuinely fun and interesting mechanics. I don't want to spoil anything, but there's a lot more to this game than just exploring a spooky house while being chased like a ghost. In true lovecraftian tradition, there's a depth to this game beyond what you see on the surface. Definitely worth checking out if you're into horror!. First of all, we should always appreciate indie games, and I've always been a fan of the indie horror genre. That being said, this is a bad game. Of the ~3 hours of total play time, it does have it's various scary bits. The real issue is the tedious and useless gameplay in between. It's mostly trial and error 'puzzle' sequences without any real hints or player direction, with a non scary dead woman roaming the halls periodically. Graphically it was buggy, for some reason on a gtx 1080, and had a few weird bugs throughout. Overall, probably a 4 or 5/10

Thank you & Update 1.12 is live!:
Hi all,

Thank you again so much for your support since Infliction has launched! Your reviews and posts in the forums mean so much to a solo developer like me. :) Please keep them coming!

I arrived home from PAX Australia couple of nights ago, and got straight in to this update. I couldn’t wait to jump in and get this patch done - it’s a big one with a lot of improvements! Thank you so much to the community for being both helpful and patient!

Update 1.12 contains the following fixes and enhancements:

  • Fixed a bug that was causing some memories to not be recognised by the memory system
  • Fixing the above bug also addressed a bug where the find every memory achievement couldn’t be triggered
  • The player can no longer hide under the bed during the baby monitor sequence causing the game to break
  • Removed the ability to pick up and examine objects during interrogation room sequence that would cause the player to become stuck
  • Fixed collision on several objects and walls that would cause the player to get stuck or pass through
  • Fixed a bug that indicated a swipe key should open a door but it does not
  • Fixed a bug that caused some candles to not work in the later part of the game
  • Flashlight no longer needs a double click to turn off at the start of a new area
  • Fixed a bug where hitting crouch and hitting the interact button at the same time would cause the player to become stuck in the inspection system
  • Fixed a bug where hitting the hide button and the interaction at the same time could cause the player to be stuck in the inspection system
  • Fixed a bug where taking a photo and crouching before the photo comes in to view causes the player to get stuck.
  • Fixed examine system so that if the item is off screen, the system will reset the object and exit examine mode. This should work for all situations
  • Added a few missing names to the credits, sorry about that
  • Removed ability for AI to spawn in an unfair location after well sequence
  • Fixed typos in achievements
  • Small incidental graphical fixes across the game (object placement and such)
  • Fixed a bug where the player could pick up a phantom version of the key in the key/camera puzzle section
  • Fixed a bug where a new player would get the continue option however clicking that option would restart the game as it’s looking for a save file that doesn’t exist. It now simply starts a new game.
  • General fixes to interaction with two objects at once
  • Minor optimisation tweaks
  • Added feature: wake-up audio recap cutscenes will only play once per area regardless of kill-count. This is reset when a new game is started. You should only see/hear each one once per playthrough
  • Adjusted: a longer delay on ghost respawn time when using the camera on the ghost

Phew, Again, thanks to the community for actively helping Infliction to improve and grow. And thank you for your patience. Being a one-man team, I tend to work a little slower than a, well… team.

The next update I’m already working on and it will contain a few more fixes as well as quality of life improvements such as skippable cutscenes, New checkpoint spawn locations, New hiding spots, More video options etc. I’ll also be doing a big optimisation pass on the next update so keep an eye out for that.

One more thing:
Upcoming updates will contain fixes to bugs, quality of life improvements, tweaks and optimisation but I also plan to start including new content in some of these updates. They’ll be free updates for everyone that owns Infliction, so keep an eye out! I’ll be keeping the new content a secret to surprise you all, and I’m excited to start working on it soon.

Thanks again, you all rock! If you’d like to support Infliction, please leave a review if you haven't done so already!

Hello all!

There’s a lot happening in the world of Infliction, and it’s not always possible to keep you up to date on everything via these Steam updates.

One of the best ways to get the latest news is to follow me on social media. You can keep an eye on everything happening via Twitter by searching for @CausticReality, and if you’re more of a Facebook fan, search for Caustic Reality there too.

My crowdfunding campaign just hit its halfway point, and there have been some awesome free bonuses unlocked. Check out either of the above social media accounts to get the latest.

The Infliction demo has also been popular with YouTube “Let’s Play” video creators, with the total number of video views now well over 1.5 million! I’ve been blown away by the positive response the demo has received, both here on Steam and on YouTube.

Thanks again for joining me on this journey, with Infliction’s October release as our shared destination. It’s already been an amazing ride, and it’s only going to get better!

. Watching let's plays of the demo is making the game better:
Hello there Infliction fans!

It’s been amazing to let people play a small sample of the game in the demo, and it’s proven to be super popular on YouTube as well. The most popular YouTube play through has racked up over a million views! Just search for “infliction” on YouTube and you’ll find dozens of videos!

I’ve learned a lot from watching folks play the demo, and I'm tweaking the final game to make it even scarier. I wrote about these lessons in an Imgur post which attracted a bit of attention. It contains a handful of new GIFs that I haven’t shown publicly before, so if you’re hungry for more game info, go check it out. Just search for “infliction” on Imgur and it’s the top result.

To stay on top of the latest Infliction info, remember you can follow me on social media. I’m CausticReality on Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube, and add a “.com” for the official website.

Thanks again for your support!

- Clinton. Chinese and German coming soon + more content:

Here’s a hint for some of the additions coming soon:

Thank you for your continued support of Infliction - your reviews mean the world to me!

Cheers,
Clinton
. The demo is live, and there's a freaky new trailer!:
Hi everyone, and thanks for your support of this independent game project. Community support and word of mouth are incredibly important for indie projects like this, so thanks so much for your enthusiasm and encouragement.

I have a few things to announce in this update, so let's jump into it!

First up, the demo is live now! This is a stand-alone experience that you can play through in 10-20 minutes to get a first-hand taste of how the finished game will play. It's spoiler-free, too: I made the demo to sample the gameplay, not spoil the story!

Second, I've made a disturbing new trailer. You can see it here on the Steam page, but I've also uploaded it to YouTube: {LINK REMOVED} If you could watch it, give it a thumbs-up, and share it with your horror-loving friends, that would be great.

I've also launched a Kickstarter to help get the game looking amazing for its Halloween release. If you've enjoyed the demo and the trailer, it would be awesome if you could go and back it.

Thanks again for your support! I've worked on this game on my own for two years, so it's great to finally be showing it to the world, even if it's only a demo and a trailer so far. In four months, you'll be able to play the whole thing!

Hi all, update 2.1 is here with some minor tweaks, fixes and improvements to optimization. Once again, thank you for the feedback and community support.

  • Updated Massimo’s studio with more detail
  • Packed away the holiday decorations

Fixes:
  • Fixed collision on hospital beds that have an inhabitant
  • Fixed an issue where some drawer contents were stuck in place
  • Fixed a few graphical bugs, irregularities and asset placement
  • Fixed an instance where the TV was trying to reference a missing audio file
  • Fixed an instance where prompts would fade in and out rather than staying on screen
  • Fixed an instance where the player crouched under debris at the start of the game could stand up and cause clipping
  • Fixed light baking irregularities
  • Fixed a clipping watermelon
  • Fixed an instance where a light switch would turn on the incorrect light
  • Fixed the way TV glow contributes light to fog so it doesn’t look irregular
  • Fixed speaker box buttons in diorama section so they can be turned on and off

  • Built in a redundancy to make the interaction system more reliable

Thanks again for the continued support and positivity. The feedback has been just so helpful and it's really making a difference to the game. Thank you all so much. Happy new year, 2019 is going to be a killer year!
. Update 1.13 – Optimization update!:

Thank you all for being so patient for this update. Update 1.13 has been mostly focused on optimization – Making improvements to areas where performance issues had been reported by the player community. This update also focuses on fixing reported bugs and implementing a few ‘quality of life’ improvements based on your feedback. Thank you so much!

Without further ado, the Infliction 1.13 update contains the following:

Optimization:
  • After waking up from the basement sequence there was a significant performance drop. The culprit was found and could be attributed to overdraw. The result is a 50% performance increase for this area of the game and several other subsequent areas
  • Areas of the game preceding the above-mentioned area have also seen a 20% performance increase due to improvements to the dynamic lighting optimization system
  • Volumetric lighting in fog has been tweaked for a small performance gain
  • Areas of the game that use heavy post processing effects have been optimized for a small performance gain
  • All lights have had an optimization pass for a small performance gain
  • Some areas have lights that cannot be switched on or off. These lights have been changed from dynamic to stationary resulting in a small performance gain
Fixes:
  • Fixed a bug causing some lights to not cast light when turned on
  • Fixed a shader that was causing overdraw and performance issues
  • Fixed a bug that caused odd collision and behaviour from cloth simulated shower curtain
  • Fixed an issue where the player could clip with wall sconce lights
  • Fixed an issue where items of interest would still flash once discovered if the player reloaded their game after discovering something and reloading the same area
  • Fixed an issue where sometimes, particularly after finding the plane tickets, the players maximum walk speed was extremely slow
  • Removed the ability to use the camera in some sequences where the player controller is disabled but the camera is not
  • Fixed an issue that caused a fresh install of the game to use invert Y as the default
  • Fixed an issue causing hiding under some beds to cause the player to get stuck
  • Fixed an issue where the player could be killed during a transition (to new areas or to a hiding spot)
  • Fixed an issue that would prevent the ability to pass through the final doors in the game
  • Fixed minor clipping issues with sliding boxes
  • Fixed a few instances where items on top of a box weren’t moving with the box when sliding
  • Fixed an issue where you could be killed twice only seconds apart causing you to witness your own death again
  • Fixed the pose of a ‘hiding’ ghost
  • Minor tweaks to text used for the subtitle system
  • Fixed an issue where lamp light reflection would show while lamp was not casting any light
  • Fixed an issue causing the ‘collect all memories’ achievement from popping. It now has a secondary check which should circumvent those whom experienced this bug. If you have finished the game and have all the memories but the achievement didn’t pop, simply continue your game and when the whiteout screen fades your achievement should pop
  • Fixed an issue where screen mode and resolution would sometimes reset themselves for the menu and loading screen
  • Fixed an issue where crouching in the elevator could cause the player to become stuck
  • Fixed an issue where the players position would be offset in the elevator
  • Fixed an issue causing subtitles to become stuck on screen
  • Fixed a few lighting inconsistencies
  • Fixed minor issues with clipping meshes
Updates and changes:
  • Moved the counselling pamphlet memory item to a new position that makes sense given the order in which they’re listed
Additions:
  • Added Vsync on/off option to video options
  • Added the ability to skip the opening cutscene
  • Added additional sound occlusion to the ghost in instances where you’re not on the same floor. If you’re not on the same floor, the ghost ambience volume is lessened by 75%
  • Added a new respawn point in ‘Crave’s lair’
  • Added subtitles to places that were intended to have subtitles but did not
  • Added new reflections to areas that lacked reflections
Other:
  • Updated some key art images on steam
  • Updated achievement text for the ‘Master chef’ achievement to better reflect how the achievement is earned (this can currently only be earned near the start of the game)

Thanks to all for being so patient with this update. I’m really happy with the optimization results and performance gains. A huge thanks and shout out to a few very active members of my community that have gone above and beyond when it comes to bug reporting and general feedback. Your input continues to make Infliction better. Thank you!

I’ll be working on a content update next. This will contain lots of additions to content as well as reported bugs and optimization fixes. I can’t wait to show off the new changes. This is going to be exciting! Thanks for joining me on this journey and the evolution of Infliction.
