This is the last Codemasters game I ever purchase, support has been only minimal, bugs that are reported in the forums are never even acknowledged, I'm getting horrendous grass and shadows flickering using multi monitors and Codemasters doesn't seem to care. As I love Rally I've spent most of my time with this game trying to fix both the FFB and that flickering grass with no success.. Pros: Game is an improvement over Dirt Rally. The driving is good for the most part, with the exception of the tarmac stages which just don't feel right. Cons: The always online requirement ruins the experience. Racenet is unstable and losing progression is often. The career is lacking. I wish they had carried over some of the career mode aspects from Dirt 4, such as own car liveries, sponsors etc. There is no proper difficulty setting. The AI are either crushingly hard or way to easy there is no way to fine tune the experience to your own performance. This is an even bigger kick in the balls given a difficult slider is clearly present in the game in single races. Damage in career mode is to light, it doesn't appear that the hardcore damage model can be switched on and only used in single races. The small track count means the career gets repetative fast and given you have to grind out the modern cars its just not fun. Summary: A solid driving experience but the rest of the game is missing and what little there is, is barebones and not much fun.. great game (when it works) ruined by online only single player career. start a championship in single player career. halfway through lose connection to racenet and loose all progress and have to start championship again. went to play it now and wont connect to racenet so cant play.. The game itself is great. It's Dirt Rally on steroids. Car physics on loose surfaces are brilliant, tarmac is much better though not THAT good, car selection is decent, sound is amazing (as always in Codies games). And those stages!. After the Dirt 4 generated ones, the handcrafted stages of DR2 feel even more magnificient. Of course, there're FFB issues, inconsistent AI times sometimes breaking WRs, some rare game crashes -- but none of those are gamebreaking. Personally, I dislike the new copilot, and the career is lacking compared to D4, but that may be just me. New economics system along with lack of liveries, absence of snow stages and some other minor highlights deserve some attention too, but I'll get to that later. The reason for this review being negative is the dreaded RACENET ISSUES! Each and every mode which earns you ingame 'credits' to buy and upgrade cars and train your crew is tied to online service called RaceNet. And that RaceNet has ISSUES. It's not as bad as it was in the very beginning for us early players, but still. Sometimes you can't connect to RaceNet, and you get an automatic DNF -- very disappointing to get that on the last stage of a hard event. And just now my career championship got reset due to 'discrepancies' between the local savefile and the RaceNet one -- AND THAT IS FOR THE FOURTH FRIGGIN TIME! I like the game. I will play it more and eagerly wait for those DLCs. But I do not recommend it, cause I don't expect this RaceNet $h1t to get much better. Remembering the D4 and how it's support got shut down pretty soon after the release further postpones reconsideration of this review to at least end of March.. Just,,,,,,,,, disappointing. Dirt Rally has been my go to game for fun, and this just isn't fun. Just going to echo what everyone else says really. Steering wheel doesn't feel good with it after a couple of hours looking round for settings and trying them all, no explanation of any of the settings (terrible GUI), some of the settings straight greyed out (coming soon?), graphics setting limited (PLEASE give me a saturation setting so I can reduce it WAY down), sickly over saturated graphics (see previous comment), always online single player with connection drop outs, close up textures (track when you are waiting at the start of a stage for e.g) are noticeably worse than 1.0. pop in and out orange screen filters when going through tree cover, out of all stages you pick between gravel and tarmac and gravel and nothing else, co-driver calls sounds like he is sat in your front room next to you instead of in a screaming rally car over an intercom. few other bits but yeah, just echos what other people say. Giving a negative review in hopes that this game will improve, I can't wait until I can change it to a thumbs up because I love dirt rally 1 so much. All they had to do was build upon the first, make the campaign a bit better, they had a winning formula.. TLDR: DiRT Rally 2.0 is an unfinished, buggy, online-required single player, expensive, DLC-for-content, game with amazing potential. I love the original DiRT Rally but I can't recommend 2.0 in its current state. Good: - The Graphics and Sound are great. - The few rallies/stages you get are very well done. - Cars feel much more real and out of control; particularly 1970s/80s RWD and Group B cars. - Intense feeling of speed and lack of control; try going flat out with the Peugeot 205 T16 Evo 2. Bad: - Mandatory Online, even for single player, with a broken and unstable "RaceNet" system. - Unable to select difficultly or tune career mode; you're forced to play non-career mode if you want to change difficultly or damage settings. - Rotating "shop" to buy cars. Want to buy an Evo VI? You'll have to wait 6 hours at a time and hope one comes in stock. - Numerous bugs: broken force feedback, sound that cuts in and out, AI that can't understand tarmac; unfinished UI with no descriptions for any settings. - No tutorials, challenges, coaching, or training; the original DiRT Rally had some videos teaching techniques and I hoped in this game they would expand this. They removed it all together instead. - Lot's of missing content from the original DiRT Rally you'll have to pay for by way of DLC. - Cars are "locked" into events you're using them in; only have one H2 RWD and you're using that in a Career Rally Championship? Congrats- you can't do any event with that car until you finish that Championship or buy another car. This game has potential but at the moment I can't recommend it. Wait until the summer or winter sale and buy it at a discount.. This game is hands down THE BEST RALLY SIMULATOR ON THE MARKET RIGHT NOW PROS: - Best rally physics engine out there - Top notch handling model - Great SAT and *core* FFB model - The stages are superb, fun to race, and provide a good mix of variety - Gravel stages have never felt better in any game - Great variety of historic cars that are some of the most memorable in rally history - I never liked the RX in DR1 outside of running one or two circuits at the end of the night - DR2.0 RX is absolutely amazing and seriously fun to play. - The DLC content is fully remastered, not a cut-n-paste job. To those who complain about "repackaged" content, once you've experience the new versions of these stages you will understand how different they are from DR1. Worth every single penny. - No launch VR support meant I returned my Rift; the delay let me instead repurpose that cash to a much nicer VR headset in plans for the summer VR launch. CONS: - FFB was lacking a lot of "faked" effects at launch, most of which has been addressed in the latest 1.4.1 patch. - Tarmac again is CodeMasters weakest part of their game. It isn't horrible, and is a step up from DR1 by a lot, but it is obvious this engine was designed for gravel/slip first, and tarmac/grip was secondary to great loose surface physics. - Not the biggest selection of stages per location; still limited to 2 Longs, 4 Sprints per Long, and their reverse. Would have been nice to get 3+ Longs per location. - NO MODERN WRC CARS. It sucks, but welcome to the BS that is licensing. We have 2000cc and a lot of really cool cars, but I know a lot of people really wanted the latest 2018 WRCs - We are still waiting for clubs/leagues to release, but those will be coming with the launch of VR in the coming month The FFB effects are not nearly as dramatic as some people want but you need to keep in mind - DR1 may have had *more* FFB effects, but that doesn't mean the effects were *better*. After the first 100 hours in 2.0 I went back to play around in DR1. The old SAT and effects THAT WERE BASED ON THE ACTUAL PHYSICS OF THE WHEELS were almost laughable compared to 2.0 and the new FFB. DR1 definitely had more road noise and general auxilary effects, but the physical forces acting on the front wheels wasn't even close. If it wasn't for those old cars having ZERO weight in DR1, it would be next to impossible to control. Take the time to setup your wheel/pedals correctly for 2.0, and give it a dozen hours with the new FFB actively trying to race with it and just "dealing" with the FFB. You'll go back to DR1 and realize that maybe the old stuff wasn't as good as you remember.. I can't really evaluate the game since it has no FFB at all. The first time I played (about 2 months ago), it had something similar to a FFB. Now, it has none, so I just can't play with the G27.. It's good, yes. It's not full price good. Buy it from somewhere (not naming) where you can get it on sale or for cheaper than $60. Well worth $30 maybe even $40. Pros -Fun, like, really fun.. get horrible stutter when my steering wheel is connected and I am not the only one.
