Aha! This is where they put the good DMC 3 port!. Rated J for J word "jackpot!" dmc1 is fun too. S'good games. You're gonna get a lot of mileage out of this collection. TLDR - 2 Great games, brutal but fair challenge, amazing story and customizability. Unforgettable characters, stellar combat, jamming music. Only real negatives are DMC2 and the fact the games slow down if your FPS dip below 60FPS. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ DMC1, where it all started. It is old and shows it, but it still remains charming to this day and just goes to show how far this franchise has come since being an idea for RE. The story is simple--a man wants to avenge his murdered family from a demon--and the combat has minor customization (2 main weapons). But, its simplicity makes it nice to ease into what the franchise will ask of you but it is challenging enough to test you. The fixed camera can be a pain in certain boss fights but otherwise it's fairly workable and at a distance enough to not be a hindrance. The entire game takes place in 1 location but the rooms and environments you'll find within that location help keep it varied and the ominous atmosphere constantly keeps you on your toes, so it never feels "samey" and boring. Several bosses are repeated (3 times), but they are changed up enough (or have gimmicks that carry across thee 3 fights) that this isnt a huge problem. DMC2, the black sheep, really lives up to its legacy of being poopoo. But just because 1 game of 3 is terrible does not stop this collection from being worth it. There is 0 customization possible as all weapons have identical abilities all at the start and guns are. well. a little OP. Level design is questionable, bosses are braindead, and the story is bland as all getout. It is worth one playthru almost solely so you can laugh at it with the rest of the community later. DMC3, often heralded as the best the franchise has ever been. While it is not my personal favorite, it is easy to see why. First and foremost you will notice about this that is different from the others is the writing. While DMC1's was fine, the characters in 3 are all extremely interesting and lively, with the story being quite enthralling leaving you wanting more. There is a vast amount of customizability across 5 weapons with various sets of abilities, 5 guns, and 6 "styles" that change how you play the game. Similar to DMC1, the entire game takes place in one location. While not as varied as 1 was in this regard, the environments constantly shift so your expectations of what's next will always change. Bosses and enemies are fun and varied to fight against, with each subsequent difficulty mode adding a new trick or two to everyone other than just buffing up their damage and health, so you're always left on your toes for what to expect next from them even on your 4th playthru. The difficulty of the series truly exists here, as you may find yourself struggling even on your first playthru on Normal mode, with Dante Must Die being the ultimate challenge in this entire collection. The only annoyance I faced while playing was the camera, it feels as though there are too many times where it switches perspective, causing moving around to be a slight pain. So, are you ready? The games are brutally difficult. Prepare for a challenge that will change the way you think about how you approach enemies. The challenge is never unfair however, all mistakes made feel like one you the player made and can learn from as long you're open to improving your skills. This gradual progression from struggling on Normal or Easy mode, to being able to come out on top in Dante Must Die (hardest difficulty) truly makes these games a remarkable, unforgettable experience. DMC2 may not be fun, but DMC1 and DMC3 more than justify the $30 pricing. Oh, and it goes without saying, but the music in all 3 titles are kickass and easy to jam to even when not playing the games. It's super satisfying to look stylish while having sick beats play in your ears. My only real gripe with the collection as a whole is that the games are FPS dependent in a way that if you dip below 60fps, the games will slow down. This can cause cutscenes to get out of sync with audio, and genereally make fights become a slow slog, so be sure you don't have too much going on on your PC when you play and that you set the game to be a priority when it runs.. Ah man, i remember when this was launched and i didn't know what to make of it then, but thought i'd give it another go, like 20 years later, 1st is like some weird Resident Evil game, Dantes design is almost a bit like Wesker, DMC 2 is utter rubbish, don't touch it, 3 is passable. But hey atleast i know what they all play like now so i can fast forward to the newer games, no ultrawide support.. If you are starting off with Devil May Cry I recommend that you buy this it comes with 1,2,and 3 and hours worth of play time however I do recommend that you play with a controller. I would start O off with DMC3 then DMC1 DMC2 is skippable but you can give it a shot if you want.. Devil May Cry 1 u2605The good: -Level variety is quite big; -Decent amount of different attacks and weapons for a hack and slash game from 2001; -Final boss fight is really good and Shoot 'Em Up section was a nice touch; -Majority of boss fights are good. u2605The bad: .but you are gonna fight each one of bosses 3 times in row, each time with very small change in gameplay which inflates the game in negative way; -Platforming is thrash just because how stiff and clunky jump is.Also camera angles are not helping with it at all; -Swimming sections despite being short - are really slow, annoying and feels unnecessary; u2605Overall: Ok'ish 7/10 hack and slash game. Even in 2019. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Devil May Cry 2 u2605The good: -Simple level design with minimal amount of backtracking; -Two different playable characters with different playstyles, own stories and level progression and even final boss fight; -Big variety of great boss fights in both design and their gimmicks (especially final boss fight, both of them); -Bloody Palace - a gamemode where you can fight (a lot). Basically a horde mode with a very specific gimmick; -There is big variety of different guns. u2605The bad: -. but all melee weapons are just generic. Typical "sword is balanced", this is one is stronger but slower and this one is weaker but faster with no extra variety in combos. In short: No special Devil Arms; -Platforming is just as bad as in DMC1 - the problem is that there is way more platforming in this game than in DMC1; -Swimming, once again, is as bad as in DMC1 but there is way more of it; -Camera ok'ish during combat as long as you are killing every single enemy. It turns into pure garbage if you are trying to ignore nearby enemies because it tries to target every single enemy nearby of you. Its even worse when enemy is not on screen because then camera is shaking and try harding to show off that enemy when he is not not even on screen. This due lack of in game target system; u2605Overall: A solid 6/10 hack and slash game. Funny enough its still more of Devil May Cry game than DMC: Devil May Cry. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Devil May Cry 3 u2605The good: -Way less focus on platforming and no swimming sections; -Quite big variety of bosses and weapons; -Great Bloody Palace from DMC2 is included; -Two different playable characters with different playstyles. u2605The bad: -. but second character is implemented in a quite lazy way. No changes in level design or boss fights whatsoever. Its even weirder because he has few new unique cutscenes and thats it; -Level desing have a bit of variety but its most of the time is just a pure garbage consisting of random rooms slapped together without any shape or form; -Confusing hot garbage level objectives. DMC 1 was kinda fine with those but in DMC3 its being multiplied by 10; -Map is utterly useless with its terrible UI, lack of objective marker and option to switch floors you may ask yourself "what was the f*cking point of even adding a map to this game?"; -Style system is good but shoving RPG experience grind system into them is way too excessive. It would be way better if you just had to pay in Red Orbs to unlock its next level; -Hands down the worst case of backtracking in entire Devil may Cry franchise. Especially when combined terrible level design, useless map and confusing level objectives; -Hands down the worst boss fight in entire Devil may Cry franchise aka Arkham; u2605Overall: A solid 7/10 hack and slash game. Its not that bad but it could be better.
