A simple pick up and drive game with no bells and whistles. The main thing is how the driving feels - not easy to program a good "feel," and now with gamepad support the controls really are fun. Impressive stuff.
My only request, which I think is quite important, is that currently there is no way to drift (handbrake) for corners. It's not a drifting game and it certainly shouldn't be the focus. But the current controls, with the addition to drift on occasion round tight corners would be an excellent addition. No need to over do it, but drifing, when necessary on difficult corners would make the already good feel, excellent.
In summary, it's well worth the money and genuine fun in it's current state. As development is on going it can only get better. I am very glad I got this gem of a racing game. It's all about the driving, as it should be, no flashy nonsense or annoying "announcers." Pick up and drive that's it, and that's a big plus in my book.
. Ok where to start? This is a fun simple racer. There is very little to it as a game, you pick a level, pick a car and try to get to the end in the required time. There is no damage, no upgrades, no ghost mode, no multiplayer, no gold\/silver\/bronze medals for doing well. So if all you want is a quick 1 minute dash up a pretty looking hillside then this is for you but if you want anything else you may be disappointing.
The game has leaderboards so you can try for the quickest time and once tracks have been unlocked you will be spending your time trying to beat the best times here which is fun.
The presentation is somewhat clunky and hard on the eyes. I don't see a way to just continue to the next level so you have to exit back to the main menu and then select the championship mode again. There is a map but it has very little use as it only shows a very small section of the track.
On keyboard the driving is very much in the arcade camp but with a controller the game is a lot more fun and rewarding.
Options are limited with the main ones being able to setup the graphic quality which is handled nicely. There is a music volume but would also be nice to have sound volume as well.
Overall I am going to give the game a thumbs up for trying something different and because I love this era of cars and it is a fun game.. The only pure hillclimb racing game on Steam.
Sensations are awesome and challenge is great. Instant fun guaranteed !
I recommand !. For only $5.99, you get to race vintage race cars (ranging from classic, fictionalized Formula 1 cars to World Sports Car endurance GT's) and challenging hillclimb courses. I raced all the courses with TC off and broke all course records. If you're willing to break my records, you're more than welcome. And for that, I had a good time with this game.
Don't expect anything very technical like premier sim racers, because all you'll need is the throttle, brakes, and steering.. Ok where to start? This is a fun simple racer. . There's no multiplayer either offline or online so it's strictly a one-player affair, and there's not even any AI cars on the road, but if time attacking is your thing, then this game delivers. With the recent patches smoothing out the experience even more, the price-to-quality ratio is definitely high on the positive.
All the tracks are point-to-point affairs in rally-like environments, so there's a lot of corners to navigate as can be expected. The courses are the star of the game, they're fun to drive and each has its own "personality". On a slightly negative note, all of them are fairly short, each taking only about a minute or so to run through. But it might take many, many attempts before you do beat them in the allotted time.
As a big of time attacking, Classic Racers scratches that itch very nicely. The developer also is very active and receptive to player comments.
Personal wishlist:
- Some longer tracks
- Ghosts
- Separation of leaderboards by car class
- Being able to see which car was used in leaderboard entries. the handling is allright cars feel like their is weight when you enter a corner
the only downside is no controller support but for the rest its a very stable game
plus the music choice in this game feels like im on a poepe de sier poepe de sol tour
