This would be cool if it was optimized. The lag makes this a chore to play.. There are a number of negative reviews complaining about the game client, but I didn't run into any of the major issues they complained about. No weird background tasks in my task manager. Hit the 'X' to close the game, and it quit fine. No super lag (just time to load things from the server). All in all it could use some more polish and some bug fixes here and there, but it's by no means unplayable. Now that that's out of the way, let's talk about the game. The game itself, as many people have already written, is a highly strategic and creative way to battle other players. There's tons of interesting skills and combinations you can come up with, and so many different decks out there to try and beat. The four spheres offer a lot of variety in themselves, concentrating on defense, resource control, attack, and board control (roughly speaking). Within the spheres you also find a lot of variety, each features multiple "families" of units that can combo with one another. Each also has different strengths and weaknesses. And you can make a perfectly strong deck without combinations in particular, if you'd rather throw individually strong units together. So is the gameplay itself compelling? Yes, undoubtedly. The fact that there's players who've stuck with the game for so many years attests to that as well. Let's talk about the developers as well, for a moment. The developers listen to their playerbase. I used to play back when the owners of the IP were from overseas, and made bad decisions to try and milk players for every cent. The US team wound up buying the IP, and have since been making the game much more fun and more rewarding to play. No longer are you purchasing options limited to just throwing dice and hoping for good cards. Now you have real options to aim for cards you want, or spin the ol roulette if you're in the mood for a gamble. There's a single-card marketplace, where players can sell each other cards and get rid of duplicates! Not to mention some single player adventures, NPCs to battle, indepth, fun tutorials, and even a crafting system I haven't even gotten into yet. They've made the whole experience ten times better, and they're not going to stop now. Balance is another important area the devs have improved, creating a subset of the huge card base that's qualified as "Horizons legal". Some cards, qhile fun to play, were just too overpowered or convenient, and I'm glad to see that they've tackled the issue head on. I'm confident future releases will be in the same spirit. To sum up, if you're interested in a strategic CCG, give Alteil a shot. It's got beautiful art, lore and characters, and most importantly varied and fun way to take down your opponent. The client's not perfect, but the dev's are dedicated and it'll only get better.. Long, long time player of the browser version, mostly made a steam account to write this revew lol Did try the steam client to be fair i didn't have a problem, and i could use my old account so that was cool this game is a fav or mine, for a card game with real straegy that isn't a re-skin of hearthstone theres so many cards here you can come up with a brand new type of deck all yourself and shock everyone my problem with the old game was getting cards and trying to be a free player im getting back into it and happy to say getting new cards is way easy now and buying cards with money from fighting is really great if you want to try something new and like card games try this. Been playing Alteil since about 2009 or 2010? I forgot. Pretty good game, you can see your whole deck from the start and place them down being mindful of your SP curve and such things. It takes practice. Dont worry about RP and just smash faces in. Alteil Steam client is currently a work in progress but is working. Just if that sluggish response when i try to open discord while having steam client active at same time be gone will be great. And tidalwave isn't core. :3 Basically Tidalwave abuse got banned unless you're playing noncore :p Thus it gets a 4/5 from me.. I started playing alteil a long time ago and its definitly a fun game however the steam client is garbage i recomend using the browser one as it laggs less. The game still has bugs to be ironed out for sure but its still the fun game that it has always been its definitly worth checking out and at least keeping an eye on for when they fix the bugs.. game hase issues with bugs, they fixing them! so i guess they working on the problem thumbs up couse: unique card game own concept I dont know if i like it or not, but im tierd of MTG and hearthstone clones. might have its place in a non-random card game. since you have access to full deck. if you mixed chess with mtg you got something like this. i think it has some pontencial. games apear to be long! 30 mins one game at least. its for thinkers. The most of game mechanics i see for the first time, therefore everything felt strange, but i was realy happy that i did not download any copy of idea. i am glad (even if buged game) that i checked it out. changed positive review to negative due to ower-greed paywall. 5 random cards = 1$. torunament price is 5$ kinda pay to win! im not that kind of person that would spend hundrets on digital cards. could be more user friendly. For 2 days of play i got 300 FM (idk what that means) but its good enough so i can get 1 random card for 120 fm. and like you can use 3 same cards in fact, in this game you need 3 same cards becouse of review mechanic. so in two days of play i could buy 2x random cards. practicaly 2x bosters each containing 1 card. this game is for one that wants to grind as horse and on top of that pay tonnes of money to actualy start playing normaly. yep kind of not actualy free to play.. Great game has some issues but atlest the mechanics are solid and while the steam launch was rocky as alll get out the dev team has been working on it like crazy i waited untill the bulk of the issues were fixed to revew and in its curent state i can happly recomend this game its been a long time coming.. I LOVE THIS CARD GAME. The mechanics are interesting, the design is solid, and the cards are more or less balanced. It's really fun, not TOO luck based, and incredibly diverse and unique. Art is pretty, on top of all that. Which is why it pains me so much to say that the client itself is honestly. lacking. I backed the Kickstarter a while ago, for $50, and have found that. well, as many have reported, it's not up to snuff. Somehow the steam client lags more than ETHAN CARTER. It's slower than any other game I have, and I have an SSD on a pretty new laptop. It actually lags more than the browser version of itself, which is inconceivable. To put it in metaphor, it's like one of the most well-developed games ever created was printed onto copy paper, haphazardly cut out, and laminated at a library. It's just unfortunate. I'm reccommending this because I know how it is with starting things, and giving it a thumbs down at this early stage, would mean taking away any chance of it ever improving. So I am giving a positive review, with tentative hope, that the day will come where this card game gets a proper setting. Okay, so separate note, what actually bothers me about the game itself, ignoring any bugs and lag - > The scaling is weird. I wish everything was centered, and I wish cards were bigger in the file editor. > The menus themselves seem disjointed, the actual view of your library is also a strangely small part of the screen. > Everything that I want to have in the file menu is there, but it all just feels terribly disjointed, and text is small enough that it's uncomfortable to read. And there's a LOT to read. > I opened a box of packs and just. it lagged and never showed the pack opening. The cards are in my file, but i have no idea what I pulled, honestly.this one's not too big an issue, but I'm sad about it anyways. > Hovering over cards doesn't always work. The card info will appear all over the place, often off-screen.. Been playing the game for quite a while. while it does have a bit of a learning curb the community is great and players are always willing to help out.
