Weed edibles are cannabis induced food products that are often in the form of baked goods, gummies or chocolates. They can contain varying amounts of cannabinoids in the form of THC and CBD.

THC stands for tetrahydrocannabinol while CBD stands for cannabidiol. The former is found in varying amounts in different marijuana strains and is responsible for the psychoactive high while CBD is the non-psychoactive component and is helpful in reducing seizures and anxiety.

Are edibles bad for you?

Excess of everything is bad and when it comes to ingesting edibles, you may not even realize if you have had too much or not. This is due to the slower action of edibles in our body. Unlike smoking or vaping cannabis, where the cannabinoids directly get mixed with the bloodstream for an instant high, edibles are first required to be metabolized by the liver in order to take effect. This can take anywhere between one to four hours.

What dosage is right for you?

Choosing the right edible comes down to the right dosage, especially when you are new to them. The dosage for edibles can be divided into three main categories:

Dosage for beginners:

The recommended cannabis edibles dose for beginners is 1 to 5 milligrams of THC. Beginners should refrain from consuming homemade marijuana edibles since the THC levels tend to be uneven in these products.

Dosage for intermediate consumers:

Intermediate consumers of edibles who have tried them before should opt for edibles with 5 to 20 milligrams of THC.

Dosage for experienced consumers:

Macro doses of edibles with 20 milligrams THC or above should only be tried by advanced stoners who are comfortable with edible consumption and are familiar with the high brought out from these products.

Side effects of cannabis edibles:

Edibles made of cannabis share essentially the same side effects as their vape and smoke counterparts. Potential side effects of edible weed include dizziness, fatigue, dry mouth, anxiety, drowsiness and cognitive changes. The consumption of cannabis in any form should be avoided in case of pregnancy.
