Where to start well over all its not bad playability wise and to be honest I generally had fun. I liked the power ups I like the bleakness of everything made you feel like you really were there. I even liked the story however only up until I gotto the ending if you can call it that. You just goto sleep on a big stone slab and you get a message about real heroes dont have an audiance watching them when they are being heroes. Thats it after your read that message the game ends. Completely ruined what was a decent game. Honestly they could have still done this but after giving you a real ending. I don't know whether the writer just couldn't think of an end or they just didn't want to code it or whatever it is game makers do. So yeah it was an ok gameuntil well magentic realms tried to getto artsy or just phoned it in. Frankly I hope its the first because they seem to be able to maker good games just try to come up with a real ending next time.. To be completely honest, Inescapable isn't worth the money it's being sold for. It's great as an experiment or a demo but I'd steer clear if you were expecting anything deep or innovative. It's not a bad game. Some bad design decisions and uninspired story but entirely playable and finishable in 2 hours. I'd recommend Axiom Verge. It's a Metroidvania with TONS of more depth, replayability, challenge and fun. If you've all but exhausted all the games that have this style of gameplay (are you for real?!) I'd say you can buy this on the super cheap but. you're honestly better off watching a playthrough. Easily skippable, but not a bad game.. The game is very forgetful and seems something of an unfinished game that could have been great if more effort was put into it. The download size is 2.5MB, so very small even among today's lightest indie games. I don't recommend buying the game at full price but it you get it as part of a bundle or as a gift then at the very least it's a decent way to waste some time. Longer, more detailed review below: You start out with nothing and gain weapons and upgrades. Gun, upgraded spread shot gun, and grenade. very simple. The enemies are blan "alien" creatures that come in two types with about two or three variations on them. One type is like a zombie that shuffles around slowly on loop and only attacks with projectiles when facing you. The second is sort of a ghost of a half corpse and persues you with flight. They both do little damage and are nothing more than an annoyance. You do find actual human enemies towards the end but they're so few apart and are only really just another upgrade of the first alien type only they shoot and walk faster. You progress through the game by using items/keys you collect to open doors that lead to more areas. The collecting is so horribly repetitive it gave me a headache just doing the same thing over and over again. Obtaining an item/key is usually just killing an enemy and it popping out of them or just finding it on the ground at the end of an area. There seemed to a sort of attempt at puzzles in various parts of your quest for these items but they just consist of making your way to a switch, lighting fires, or using a water filled pot to set on a floor switch. All of it very unimpressive. As you play the game you'll come across what seem to be small parts of an actual story forming. It's not that interesting and horribly written, giving the player no real reason actually pay attention and read any of it. There was a sort of "build up" to the story as you progressed through the game and made me think I was in for a boss fight of some sort. The game abruptly ends when you get to a sarcophagus to insert the last item you found. (a stone circle) I'd of thought this would trigger the final battle that I was hoping for while playing through this but NO, NO NO NO, your character just says he'd rest there and the game pops up an image of the planet in space with some saying in front of it. The saying being a BS message about "your heroic adventures as kid mean nothing" or something along those lines. Meh.. Awful, boring game. If you've ever wanted to play Metroid, but without the interesting story, without cool powerups, without any challenge, and without any actual open-world backtracking that sort of coined the phrase 'metroidvania', then buy the out of this game. Otherwise, stay away. Instead, go purchase an actual good game like Terraria.. What can I say?. Do you like Flashback?. Well, you will have some fun with this game. The End of this game. well, its not good.. Inescapable is an old school experience that gives its homage to Amiga and PC games from the early 90's. The game caught my eye as it looked like a mix of Flashback meets Metroid, sadly it's neither and it's really not a good experience either. The game itself could almost fit on a 3 floppy disk as the size of the game is less than 2.5 megabytes. Because of this there aren't a lot of sound effects, music, animations or sprites or enemy variations in the game. The game itself is extremely easy, short and predictable. Don't expect a metroidvania, if so then you'll be greatly disappointed. It would've been fine if the game was released as a free title or just a school project or similar, but I sadly can't recommend buying this.. It's an hour or two long, but the biggest challenge is remembering which way to go as there is no map. The ending kind of makes sense but it does feel a little insulting.
