With last year’s triple crown, legendary trainer Bob Baffert became only the second person to accomplish the feat twice. The five-time Derby winner has three chances to add to his total this year with Improbable, Roadster and Game Winner all in the 20-horse field. While there’s no questioning Baffert’s legacy, being the first to capture three triple crowns would cement him as the best trainer in the sport’s history.

Fate might be on the 66-year-old’s side this year. Entering the week, Omaha Beach, trained by Richard Mandella, was the betting favorite at 4-1. Each of the last six races have been won by the favorites. However, Omaha Beach has been scratched from the race with a trapped epiglottis, limiting his ability to breathe. This leaves Baffert’s trio as the top three favorites: Game Winner (9-2), Roadster (5-1) and Improbable (5-1).

The two horses who round out the top five betting favorites (Maximum Security 8-1, Tacitus 8-1) are both trained by trainers who haven’t won this race before. While the signs point to Baffert capturing his sixth Derby crown, there’s always a chance for a surprise, even if history doesn’t say so.

After much anticipation, the 2019 Kentucky Derby is here. A year after Justify conquered a muddy track to kick off his Triple Crown run, five-time Derby-winning trainer Bob Baffert is back with three favorites atop the field for the 145th running. And despite some rainy forecasts, the excitement is high to see whether anyone can top Baffert's contenders in Louisville.

With morning-line favorite Omaha Beach dropping out of the race with a breathing issue, Baffert's Improbable headlines his trio of favored Thoroughbreds set to take the track on Saturday evening. Among the other candidates to take this year's world-famous race are Tacitus, who is trained by Hall of Famer Bill Mott; and also co-betting favorite Maximum Security, who won the Florida Derby.

But Liverpool lost their focus in a just a few key moments, costing them a goal or two and turning the tide in Barca’s favor.

Klopp is now faced with a tough decision: focus on the league and play the stars, or hedge his bets and give key players rest against Newcastle. While the Toon haven’t had the best season – they are currently 11-9-16 and sit 13th in the table – they’re capable of pulling off upsets. In fact, Man City’s last lost in the Premier League came against Newcastle. Rafa Benitez has his men well-drilled and has told the press they have no plans to roll over for the title-chasers. Salah and Mane will likely carry the burden up top once again with Roberto Firmino still lacking full fitness.

It’s a short and trying road ahead for Liverpool, but to have a shot at a trophy, they need to put their best out there.
