A coffin-rocking, body-hopping, musical adventure game, set in a horrific hamlet of monsters.

Set in a peaceful, blood-curdling village blessed with gorgeous panoramic mountaintop views and the blissful stench of rotting corpses, Wailing Heights is home to the likes of vegan werewolves, hipster vampires, soulful zombies and all manner of well-adjusted supernatural taxpaying home-owners.

Story

Meet Frances Finklestein, the one-time manager of the all-time greatest rock band that Great Britain ever produced: The Deadbeats.

After being invited to a gig in a town no one's ever heard of, Frances Finklestein is trapped in a holding cell, charged with the crime of... Being Alive! A mysterious cellmate teaches you the power of possession. You learn to “body-hop”, leaving your corpse in the holding cell and jumping from ghost to vampire to werewolf to zombie. Each creature’s skills and abilities bring you one step closer to getting your body out of lock-up and getting the hell out of Wailing Heights. But of course, it’s never that easy…

As you jump from one musical monster to another, familiar sounds and faces start up show up. The Deadbeats have returned as the undead, and they want to get the band back together.

Gameplay

In the style of classic adventure games, you will need to talk to the locals, choosing just the right thing to say (and who to be), collect lyrics as you explore the town, listen to musical clues, and like all great songwriters; steal things from other songs. Add these ingredients to your musical possession wheel, and sing your soul right into a monsters' body, gaining their supernatural abilities and moving one step closer to escaping Wailing Heights.

Wailing Heights...
Some quick personal thoughts:

I managed to complete it on my first run, without actually cheating much (i did check for a quick guide one time tho) due to getting myself stuck because i was trying to do just a few too many things at once really.
It's not for everyone because of the setting and pace this game has, however to me personally it was something new and that's why i bought, played and enjoyed it until completion.
The game has a nice artsy cartoony look to it and the story is nicely written with lot's of animations, spoken texts, comical humour and plenty of nice tunes to boot.
Never have i personally encountered any game breaking bugs, crashes or corrupted save files or anything. At some rare occasions i did however notice some glitches here and there but nothing that broke down the game.
Overall i am happy to have bought and played the game for over 10 hours (i got more than my moneys worth for it) so i will gladly reccomend this to everyone who has a real open mind for such slow paced narrative driven point on click games.

My personal score 7/10. Love this game and am having a really fun time with it. Lots of catchy tunes and an endearing story line that will keep you hooked from the start. Not to mention it has a really cool art style that makes the whole game a treat on the eyes. Definitely worth picking up if adventure games are your thing, or even as a first try with the genre.. The game is fun and I liked playing it....for a couple of min...then it chrasches...again, again and again. The most unstable game I ever played! Dont buy it now...try again in a year or two when it´s (hoppfully) updated.. Definite recommendation if you like puzzle adventure games. I really loved the humour, music and visual style. No wonder after I've learned that Todd Mcfarlane was involved whose comic series SPAWN had outstanding artwork, too.

For me it was a really, really fun time exploring the town Wailing Heights and I would love to experience another story with all those ghosts, werewolves, zombies and vampires^^. This game is so great, its not a fixed comic book game , its totally animated and interactive.
Awesome artwork, humour and voice overs together with top audio/music.

The story really sucks you in with its characters.. Unfortunately the devs are unaware that pop-filters exist.. Amazing artwork, great music and unique story. I enjoyed my time playing this game and think that anyone who enjoys the point and click adventure genre would like it too. I also enjoyed the humour and the voice acting and the fact that each character had their own unique ability.

With that said, there were a few issues that I had while playing. Switching between the characters was a unique mechanic and I found it pretty fun for a while, but soon became annoyed by it when I had to listen to the character's theme song every time I swapped. I think the developers should have added in some type of option to skip the music. The game was also lacking polish in some places. I came across a lot of pixelated artwork and text and the speech bubbles ran off screen a few times. I think the developer could go back and clean up some of these issues to make the game an even better experience. My character also became stuck at one point and i had to go back and reload a previous save.

I also think there could have been more story which actually involved playing the deadbeat characters because there didn't seem to be any point in switching to them once they were unlocked. I also didn't like how some of the character's stories were easily missable if you didn't press the right button in time to see them. I know there is an extras section where these can be watched but it would have been nicer for these to just automatically load and give the option to skip them for those who aren't interested in the story.

We're enthusiastic to be nominated in the same shortlist as a few AAA games, such as Uncharted 4(!), with a couple of gorgeous indies in the mix too.

I know we've been quiet of late, but we've been very noisy behind the scenes prepping our audio remaster. 95% of the files have been reenginered, and we just to need to record a few missing files in order to set the update live. Shouldn't be too long!

In other news, Adventure Gamers placed us Runner Up in their 2016 Aggie awards for Best Gameplay and Best Music, and we placed as a finalist in the first NI Game of the Year awards.
The NI grand prize went to Her Majesty's Spiffing, which is an adventure game from our chums at Billy Goat that I highly recommend while you're waiting to play the remastered Wailing Heights again.

Wailing Heights, our body-hopping, musical adventure game is singing it’s way to Steam on April 27th 2016.

Since the game features original songs and puzzle-based lyrics from folk-singing werewolves, 60s Rock and Roll Monsters bands, hipster Vampires and soulful zombies, to celebrate the launch, we're holding a cover-song contest.

To enter, post a Youtube video of you performing a cover-version of a song from the game, post it on our Wailing Heights Steam Community Hub, or tweet your link to @Outsidergames, before Friday 20th May, and our favourite will win a £100 Steam Voucher.

With the songs in the game ranging from pop-tastic professional tunes, to ridiculous werewolf limericks in the Full Moon Club, you don’t even have to be a brilliant singer to take part! It’s our favourite that wins!
