A former DEA agent moves his family to a quiet town, where he soon tangles with a local meth druglord.
Phil Broker is a former DEA agent who has gone through a crisis after his actions against a biker gang went horribly wrong and it cost the life of his bosses son. He is recently widowed and is left with a 9 year old daughter, Maddy. He decides to quit the turbulent and demanding life of thrill for Maddy's sake and retires to a small town. His daughter fights off a boy who is bullying her at school, and this sets in motion a round of events that end in his direct confrontation with the local Meth drug lord. His past history with the biker gang also enters the arena, making matters more complex. But he has a mission in his mind to protect his daughter and he is ready to pay any cost that it demands.
Talking to a family friend about gathering presents up for a friends upcoming Birthday,I was caught by surprise,when he mentioned that he had a film in mind which he felt would be a great title to give as a present,which led to me excitingly getting ready to look across the homeland.

The plot:

Successfully planning a raid on a crystal meth gang,undercover DEA agent Phil Broker finds the father and son gang leaders refusing to give up,which leads to Phil slamming the dad to the ground,whilst having to kill the son,after the son aims a gun at him.

2 Years later:

Mourning the death of his wife, Phil and his daughter Maddy decide to move to a quiet town,in the hope of finding peace in the country side.Dropping Maddy off at school one day,Phil and Maddy get into a fight with another family,who run away after Phil and Maddy reveal their unexpected fighting skills.Furious at the humiliation they suffer,the family decide to pay a visit to leading drug dealer Morgan "Gator" Bodine.Angery over the family's details about Phil attempting to put everyone in the town in their place,"Gator" tells the family that he will make sure that Phil Broker is shown who the real boss of the town is.

Originally written to be the basis for the 5th title in his Rambo series,the screenplay by Sylvester Stallone (based on a novel by Chuck Logan) gives the movie a sweet Country feel,with Stallone showing that the only time matters in the area are sorted in the board room,is when a resident sees the chance to hit someone with the boardroom table!Whilst the relationship between the Broker family is a bit sickly sweet,Stallone keeps the action moving at a frantic pace,thanks to Stallone showing the villain's to cut any corners in order to get hold of Phil Broker,and also to unexpectedly showing the baddies having a serious sense of doubt,over if they may have gone too far in getting hold of their target.

Basking the film with lush green surroundings,director Gary Fleder uses the relaxing setting as a way to give the gripping action scenes a scotching hot atmosphere.Tearing apart the Broker's "quiet life" image,Fleder scatters the film with drops of blood and uses quick paced camera moves to show each of the punches and gunshots to strike with a real force.

Whilst not doing anything close to a US accent, Jason Statham gives a rugged performance as Phil Broker,with Statham showing Broker's sense of calm to be one that quickly burns out,the moment Phil realises that he has to revive his brutal DEA training.Taking on Stanham,James Franco shows himself to be an excellent creep as "Gator",with Franco showing Gator's desperation in his dried up eyes,as Gator fights to protect his homefront. Jason is his usual self. He is solid in his performance but the issue is a predictably inadequate script. Better yet, a dreadful script. Fans of Jason Statham have seen him in mostly worthy films having the right combo of action and scripted dialog but I sat finding either useless dialog and or ridiculous scenes that made no sense. The bad guy in this case failed miserably to develop his character where we, the viewer, could care less whether he lived or met his demise by a slug. I had great expectations for the film. The trailer gave us the highlights of what was to be a thriller and then dumped the viewer a dud of an ending. Let's hope Jason's next film delivers if a script comes with the whole package. I see other reviews contrary to mine and wonder...Did we see the same movie?
