Wish I could give this a clear thumbs up but can't, if I could it would be a maybe. At its core, the game is a solid puzzler with a great set of variety as well as difficulty. Great artwork and serviceable story, I guess. The problem lies in the hidden objects part. There's far too many so-called "pixel hunts" or objects so small or obscure that you have to slowly trawl the pointer across the screen until you get lucky or just use the hint for a clue. Almost immediately in the beginning you have to find 5 tiny triangular buttons, which are practically microscopic. To me, that's just poor design, not challenge. Moments like that made me so frustrated that when it came time for the puzzles, I may not have had the patience and skipped them rather than take the time to appreciate them. Not a bad game, just poor design choices that I hope they learned from for the future.. Nice myster game . You have to solve puzzle and very good puzzle. This is a fun and changing game .. Nice little (short) game with sensible puzzles and good hint system. Some of the objects are a littll;e hard to see though. Last puzzle is a bit annoying. Enjoyable, approx. 4 hours.. Maybe I'm just blind or stupid, but I got an hour into the game without ever actually figuring out a puzzle on my own. When you've skipped the puzzle, seen the solution, and still thought to yourself 'Good Lord I would never have figured this out and I still have no idea how they got ths solution", maybe the game is too hard. What I saw of the game is pretty and seems to have interesting lore, but graphics and backstory are not enough to make it worth hitting Hint every time it reloads and skipping every puzzle. Frankly it's frustrating that what could have been a great game is largely unplayable.. Very interesting, colourfull and joyfull game. Lots of puzzles. You are a detective, and one day the Mayor is kidnapped from the stage and a scarecrow with a bloody knife in its chest is left in his place. Its your job to track down the Mayor and save the day! As you progress, youll piece together and solve puzzles that will show you short clips in order to learn the huge secret that the interesting little town that you started off in is hiding. The storyline is very sweet and not too complicated while at the same time being very original. Youll meet cute steampunk characters, play chess, solve maths problems, juggle chemicals and encourage a love story (and even deliver the ring!). The gameplay itself is nothing new, but that doesnt mean theres anything wrong with it. The game itself lasts for two to three hours, maximum, perfect for someone busy and interested in a short and cute story or for kids who love puzzles. To find what you need to complete each puzzle, youll need to thoroughly search each room youre in. While its hard to find some pieces as theyre very well hidden and can be quite small, it certainly creates an aura of challenge. Most of the puzzles are classics that everyone should be able to complete, though whether they take you five minutes or forty-five is up to you and your brain. The game itself has 15 achievements for you to complete, although theyre not steam achievements. The artstyle is very colourful, attractive and kid friendly. Once you complete the game, extra behind the scenes images have been unlocked for you to enjoy and further explain why each puzzle occurred. For example, one image shows the villain shooting at the Mayor, missing, and hitting a steam pipe. Later on in the game, you must block the steam coming from that pipe in order to progress. This is a really clever way of adding extra content into your game while tying it all together, and I really enjoyed it. The Big Secret of a Small Town also has a very catchy soundtrack. It has beautiful string pieces and orchestral pieces strewn throughout the game to really help showcase the mood and storytelling. Id honestly recommend this game for that alone. Finally, the technical aspect of the game. It has two separate sliders for the music and the sound effects. The game has an option to be windowed or fullscreen, however you dont seem to be able to choose the size of the game when its windowed. You also have an option to use custom cursors. Last but not least, you and your family can play this game without having to worry about saving over each others progress, as this game allows you to play with several profiles. Overall, I absolutely recommend The Big Secret of a Small Town to everyone from the ages of 10 and up. This is a wonderful gem in anyones steam library and Id definitely recommend that you give it a go.. If you have Windows 10, you will be dealing with crashing during the story cutscenes, and the game has no way to replay the main story cutscenes as an autosave is performed just before the cutscene starts. There is no-where on the web where these cutscenes are posted so that you can actually watch them all when your game crashes. Support pages for the product refer to the Russian game makers site, but there is no support for this game on the site, even when translated. This is in the US under Big Fish Games, but the site has nothing about game crashes. Also, the tag this should have had as a Hidden Objects game was missing, but the actual puzzle part of the game makes up for the lameness of the hidden objects part of it.. Really good game, nice graphisms and interesting puzzles.. I was given this game for review purposes. It's a great game with a lot of potential. The storyline is fascinating, the puzzles are the appropriate level of difficulty and it breaks away from your standard hidden object feel. They don't have a panel where you have to find unrelated things to the game (i.e. find 10 umbrelas so you can get 1 screw type thing). I would classify it as a puzzle-novel with a hidden object feel. In any case, it's a nice little game and you should give it a try! Pros: -Good voice acting -Nice music -Beautiful artwork -Intriguing story -Fun puzzles Cons: -The "hints" might not be helpful at times -Some puzzles are not explained well -The lack of a Journal or some type of Document of clues you find (i.e. number combinations used later) can be a little frustrating at times. Mehs: -Kind of short Overall, I'd give it a 8.75/10
