Super fun little arcade game. Isn't too hard until about the last 10 levels or so where it felt like it got really hard, really fast. I still haven't beaten the level 1 boss yet, as I can't seem to make it past level 5 (you start at 50 and go down). But it's a neat little game to pick up and play for a few minutes here or there. It's very easy to jump in and out of!. This game comes across as a high-school project - and if you think of it that way, it deserves an A.

The game's main issue is difficulty. It seems to be a very short and simple game, so to compensate for its lack of content it has a high difficulty level to keep you playing the same few levels over and over. But unlike other games that are difficult due to level design, this game's difficulty could have been adjustable in the menu, as what make it hard is the short time limits and your limited health bar.

Except that there's no menu. The "return to menu" option when you die actually just means "forget any checkpoints you reached and start over".

There appear to be only two checkpoints before you reach the final "boss" (one after each of the two other simple "boss" creatures), but it's quite difficult to reach each checkpoint, so losing progress because you went to the nonexistent menu is annoying.

Other irritations:
- If you run out of time, instead of having to play the level again, or going back a level, or losing a health point, you lose instantly. Needlessly harsh.
- There is no warning (blinking or chime) to let you know you're almost out of time.
- If you finish the level by killing the last enemy right when the time runs out, it doesn't count: you just lose. This happened to me twice in my 45 minutes of playtime.
- Level transitions are too quick. You're not given any rest after passing a level and no time to prepare for the newly spawned enemies.
- Having to aim your "sword" with the mouse is a bit irritating, since the mouse cursor is a bit hard to see and I think I'd rather just aim in the style of the Mass Effect conversation bubble (i.e. aiming with no cursor)
- Um... $CDN7.79? Hell no! This is firmly in the 99-cent category.. Shapes of Gray is an excellent short-time game for those looking for a little bit of challenge without the frills of higher priced games. The simplistic nature of Shapes of Gray allows the player to pick up its mechanics in an instant, but when new enemies flood the field the difficulty rises rather quickly. This game was perfect to drop a few bucks on and play on stream, my audience dug it and it just the right length. I definitely recommend you check this game out.. I bought this game after I saw it on Kinda Funny. It looked like a lot of fun to play so I decided to give it a try. It's extremely fun to play, addicting, and easy to start. Everyone should try it out, and learn that it is a fantastic, fun game.. Excellent monochromatic arcade style game. Solid controls and a variety of enemies makes is a rewarding experience with a nice replay value.. My kind of game. It's really satisfying to memorize patterns and do a little better each round. Your progress is entirely up to you not your character's stats or something.. Highly recommend if you just want to relax and play a simple game. I find this very fun to play on road trips or when I'm just tired of the normal stuff. Can't wait to see what this dev has in store for us.
