A Puerto Rican gang leader that Mac helped put in prison many years ago is released, and suddenly the new leaders of the gang begin turning up dead.
When the leader of a powerful New York gang, El Puño, is found murdered, the CSIs must find the killer before a street war with a rival gang breaks out. Mac asks the co-founder of El Puño, Luther Devarro, a man he put behind bars years before, for help.
First the implausible; Flack goes to make an arrest in known gang territory by himself, then later Mac goes to arrest the killer, knowing that he would be going to/about to kill someone, by himself. Where's the back-up? Surely a police officer in those situations would be part of a group, or at least a pair?

Then the annoying; on and off throughout the episode, the filming is done split-screen, side-by-side, meaning all you can see of each is half a wide-screen shot. This sort of direction drives me up the wall; you're bound to miss things, and it's totally unnecessary.

Overall, a weak episode.
It was interesting to see Edward James Olmos again. It's been awhile since Ihave seen the man who was the boss on the TV hit show "Miami Vice." Prior to that, Olmos was in films such"Blade Runner," "Stand And Deliver," and "Wolfen. In recent years, he's been a regular on several TV shows I haven' watched, or can't get.

The only thing that looked different about him today from when I remember him from the 1980's was that he's put on a little weight....but who doesn't when they get older? His acting was superb in here, better than I ever remember it. In this episode, he plays a former gang member "Luther Navarro" in the Puerto Rican section of the New York City who has just been released from years in jail. Series star "Mac Taylor" had been the one who had arrested him. However, there are no bitter feelings from "Navarro." He says Taylor "is a fair man."

The story, meanwhile, centers around some gang hits and Taylor's concern is that all-out gang war will start because of it. The CSI team tries to find out who is behind the killings before an all-out war starts.

In the end, they discover a surprising murderer and Taylor has a very suspenseful shootout with him (and a third party)/
