Dante travels across a desolate, futuristic Spain in search of his girlfriend, Ula. He is pursued by a bloodthirsty, cybernetic Rottweiler.
In 2018, in Spain, the prisoner Dante (William Miller) escapes from a prison and is chased by a robot dog. He tries to reach the city of Puerto Angel, where he left his beloved girlfriend Ula (Irene Montalà). While running away, he recalls his recent past in Spain with Ula.
Horrendous isn't a strong enough word to describe this film. The movie is about a dog that got trashed as a young dog and got rebuilt with metal bones...yeah okay wolverine go get your own damn plot. Anyways, it continues on about some guy who is hunting for his girlfriend that got taken by some fat dude. This guy somehow manages to shoot this dog to death and it still comes back. I know this is supposed to be a horror movie but it is more along the lines of a comedy/horror. It's so funny its stupid. Craptastic acting, makeup, and the rendering of the dog as pure metal was almost decent. Don't waste your money with this garbage, go buy another film.
It was a flick on the Sci-Fi channel. The description, and I'm paraphrasing here, was, "A cybernetic dog tears down anything in its path as it chases down a fugitive." It sounded interesting enough. I liked the prospect of a sci-fi movie with psychological horror; surely the paranoia of being hunted by a killer robot-__anything__ would make for an interesting show.

...Heheh... Yeah... Interesting...

Rottweiler takes place in Spain, in the near-future... The "fugitive" in question is a young American man named Dante. He escapes prison, and struggles not to just get out of Spain, but also to find his girl. And, at the very heart of the movie, that's what it's all about; a man and his struggle to be reunited with his lover. Yes, I know that sounds strange when everything except perhaps the last half hour of the movie, more or less, is all about dismemberment by rottweiler, but seriously. The rottweiler is just a plot device.

There's a very, very large cast, but the real star of it is Dante. Who, like everyone else in the movie, isn't a very deep character. No one in the movie is worth caring about, except for maybe that child and a few other featured animals, since human nature is to be protective of anything adorable. Down to it, all the characters are worth a sentence, and nothing more; Dante is crazy and he's in love. The dog's a mindless man-eating robot. Dante's girl is loved by Dante. The little girl is adorable. The bad guy is bad. That strange woman is probably into BDSM.

All of these characters... They're that shallow. Compelling, aren't they? Overall, the actors are actually quite passable, performances even worthy of praise sometimes, except for the part where the little girl cries. (She sucks at that.) The bad guy? (Oh, you'll learn about him later.) Totally came across as heartless. That strange woman as she was being attacked by the dog? Her face was almost priceless. And Dante's girl is good when it comes to using her voice. But, by no means are any of these people's performances moving; but you can blame the writers for that. All of the actors' potential? Wasted. Just utterly wasted, on a movie that seems like it was written by teenagers.

So why did I continue watching this? I know I could've changed the channel, but it got me hooked; I wanted to see what would ultimately happen to the dog and Dante. That sort of sentiment could only apply to me, though; I'm the kind of person that'd walk through hell and back just to get a question answered. ...I guess you could call it obsession. "Obsession"? Yes. "Paranoia"? No. Just... no. After all, that's just rude.

The general atmosphere of the movie was mediocre, at best. There was never suspense, but at the same time, the movie isn't painfully predictable at all. The bloody gore? I don't care much about gore, but if you're that kind of person, this movie will definitely satisfy your quench for blood and guts. But for some people, that excessive gore will just turn them off. If you're that kind of person, don't even bother starting the movie.

The soundtrack was nice to listen to at first, but tracks were overused, and nothing really could stay in your mind. There's nothing interesting about the camera angles, though I did appreciate the slow frame rate of certain scenes with the rottweiler as the focus. Though as the movie neared its end, the atmosphere of the movie hit all-time lows; everything reeked of immaturity. It was as if a child wrote and directed this... I was compelled to turn off the TVand compelling me to do something like that is very difficult to do, considering the sort of person I ambut I persisted.

I regret doing that. Err, you know, persisting. The ending was a total rip-off of another movie < coughs >, and the __very__, very end was just plain cheesy. It accomplished getting out the message what the directors probably wanted out. (Yes, it's about love.) But the execution was just terrible.

All in all, I'd say don't watch this movie. EVER. Unless you're in it for the dog and the gore.
