Six teenagers Tommy, Kimberly, Adam, Billy, Rocky and Aisha have discovered the power to fight the forces of evil. A giant egg is unearthed in Angel Grove. Lord Zedd and Rita Repulsa investigate the egg, and release the creature inside - Ivan Ooze, whom Zordon had trapped him inside the egg six thousand years ago. Once released, Ooze left to seek revenge on Zordon. And now Zordon in his crystalline deathbed is dying because he has no power, without the power then Zordon of Eltar will never existed. Now the fate of the universe is in their hands. But this time the Power Rangers head for a distant planet to meet up with a bikini-clad warrior babe named Dulcea who imparts ancient wisdom and power. But now that they have their powers back and becomes Power Rangers once more they will now get back to business and defeat Ivan Ooze at all costs.
The galactically feared, universally despised Ivan Ooze is released from a hyperlock chamber after six millennia. The first thing on his agenda - conquer Earth. A plan which involves revenge on his imprisoner, and mentor of the Rangers, Zordon! The Rangers, stripped of their powers, must journey to a distant planet and seek the fabled Great Power - the only thing capable of saving Zordon and restoring their lost powers. It's a race against time as the rangers, using the power of Ninjetti, struggle to restore their powers, save Zordon and defeat Ivan.
It's not the worst movie on the planet. The main elements that give it its flair is the fact that it has much more to work with- no old clips of the old japanese TV series. There are many similarities to the normal show, as this fits directly in continuity, but the feel that this is indeed a movie is made known. For instance, the opening skydiving scene.

The characters seem to be given a bit more depth than the series, which is mostly a series of shaken heads and pointed hands in under 30 minutes vs. the monster of the day. The special effects are not meant to be Star Wars, but they do give a far superior feeling to the series. Especially the enemies and Zords, who are merely plastic and rubber on TV. In conclusion, this is not a cheesy superhero film made on a low budget, but a part of a long and complicated story that is Power Rangers. Too bad I hate them anyway. This movie came during that time when Power Rangers was corny and not very serious. The movie, however, is more like what the later shows would be. This had a more dark tone to it and was more entertaining. The plot was kind of weak, but this movie was made for kids. Also, the movie is really out of place with the series continuity, but I believe that was intended. The acting is far from perfect, but okay. Personally, I would say the villains did a better job though. The special effects were excellent! Overall, this movie had a lot of interesting elements and proved to be a fun ride. Way better than the sequel.
The special effects are surprisingly good. And the too-numerous fight scenes have a certain flavor, since Ivan's henchmen always explode in ooze when they are destroyed, which brings out the eeewww in the audience.
