The game is set in a sweltering jungle where players must fight for survival by battling relentless natural elements, as well as an onslaught of ruthless enemy soldiers.
In 1963 Naked Snake, soon to be Big Boss and father a Solid Snake, infiltrates the Russian jungle to extract a Russian weapons specialist. The mission turns into a catastrophic failure when Snake's former mentor, The Boss, defects to Russia and sets a nuke. Now alone and defenseless Snake must stop The Boss and her squad of crack special ops from unleashing nuclear war!
As an avid Metal Gear fan, I followed the progress of Snake Eater since its first announcement at E3 2003. Any information about it, I grabbed eagerly. Was it worth it? The game itself takes a huge step away from the other games in the series, by forcing you to survive in a jungle. You're not dropped outside of a base and told to infiltrate, instead, you have to search for food, as well as evade guards and fight the odd boss here and there.

Graphcially, the game stands out amongst many other games on the PlayStation 2, with realistic backdrops, that simply ooze life from every crevice and rock.

Music in the game does not disappoint, since the main score was done by Harry Gregson-Williams as with the previous game. The main theme is definitely the best in the series.

Score - 10/10 I'll start out with a overall summary... This game is awesome! I bought a PlayStation 2 just for this game. I'll try to keep this spoiler free, but I marked it anyway. The player plays as an American government operative in Soviet territory during the Cold War. The main character, codename "Snake," starts out on a mission behind enemy lines to recover a kidnapped weapons scientist named Sokolov, but then disaster strikes and unexpected turns occur. This game provides players with a cast of very memorable characters and familiar ones from the other games in the series. Ocelot, the famous revolver gunslinger from the previous two games, appears in this game. The all new "Cobra Unit" appears in this game as well. The most memorable of the cast are probably Ocelot, The End, and The Boss all of which are bosses you fight in the game. Overall, this is easily one of the greatest games of all time, and easily deserves a 10 out of 10. You can replay this game an uncountable number of times with its improved AI from previous games and great storyline. Simply one of the greatest.
