Ostracised villain John Kreese attempts to gain revenge on Daniel and Miyagi, with the help of a Vietnam War comrade, the wealthy owner of a toxic waste disposal business.
After Daniel and Miyagi defeats the Cobra Kais, and after Miyagi humiliates their master, Kreese, all of his students desert him. Kreese decides to close the dojo, he then goes to to his friend, Terry, who is also the dojo's owner, to turn in the keys, and announces that he is leaving town. Terry decides to send him on a vacation, and while he's away, he'll get Kreese his revenge on Daniel and Miyagi. Part of his plan is to recruit a deadly karate fighter, Mike Barnes, to fight Daniel in the tournament. Mike terrorizes Daniel and his friend, Jessica to participate in the Karate tournament that he won last year, but Miyagi believes that it's not a priority, causing a rift between Daniel and Miyagi.
I consider this entry the weakest of the first three KK movies. It had it's moments, but it lost me with one irritating detail. Why was Daniel so darn scared to fight the new bully? Heck, he just fought for his LIFE in Okinawa! You'd think he would just be laughing in the face of the zipper-headed 'wonder boy' of karate....

Also, Daniel sure whined a lot during this entry... Minor spoilers

This is the definition of a guilty pleasure, it's so incredibly awful, but also fun to watch. Filled with unintentional comedy, I actually went to see this twice at the movies, I had to show a friend of mine how terrible it was. First of all, it takes place exactly a year after the first one, even though it's really been over 5 years, and Ralph Macchio is pushing 30, but playing a 17 year old. The evil karate instructor from the first movie wants to get revenge on Daniel for beating his star pupil, and enlists the aid of a pony tailed rich friend, and a teenage "bad boy" of karate. The pony tailed guy is really into this revenge plot, he goes over the plan sitting in a sauna, and just bursts out laughing, just like from a comic book. The ponytail guy pretends to befriend Daniel, and train him, because Miyagi wants nothing to do with Daniel fighting in this tournement because......well, because that's what it says in the script. Of course, eventually the terrible trio let Danny in on their little plan right before the big tournement, and miyagi shows up and says that he'll train Danny, and then proceeds to wipe the floor with all three of the karate experts, and as Danny and Miyagi walk away, the three are still laughing and taunting Danny, which seemed odd to me since he's being trained by the guy that just beat all their asses all at once....but the laughing and the taunting were in the script, so why not. Of course, Danny is losing badly up until the last moment, until Miyagi gives him a word of encourgement, and then Danny snaps out of his stupor and wins......because it was in the script. Yes, it's really as bad as it sounds, but you'll laugh yourself silly, I promise. With its sluggish script and unaging characters, The Karate Kid Part III has the rote sense of film makers trying to crank out another moneymaker.
Okinawa-trained karate master Kesuki Miyagi (Pat Morita) and his student Daniel Larusso (Ralph Macchio) open a bonsai shop in Reseda (California). Meanwhile, Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith), ruthless businessman, martial arts expert, and owner of John Kreese (Martin Kove)'s failing Cobra Kai dojo, sets out to win the All Valley Karate championship back from Daniel. The Karate Kid, Part III is the third movie in the Karate Kid series, preceded by The Karate Kid (1984) (1984) and The Karate Kid Part II (1986) (1986), which were based on scripts by screenwriter Robert Mark Kamen, who also wrote the script for this movie. A fourth movie in the series, The Next Karate Kid (1994), was released in 1994. The Karate Kid movies have no relation to the DC Comics superhero also known as "Karate Kid". Just over nine months has passed since Daniel won the All-Valley Karate Tournament, trouncing Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) from the Cobra Kai dojo. Daniel and Mr Miyagi have just returned to L.A. following their trip to Japan (seen in The Karate Kid: Part II). No. Yukie (Nobu McCarthy) remains in Okinawa in a new house that Miyagi built for her. Daniel explains to his mother that Kumiko (Tamlyn Tomita) has taken a job with a dance company in Tokyo. After taking a job in Fresno (in Karate Kid II) that allowed Daniel to travel to Okinawa with Miyagi, Lucille Larusso (Randee Heller) is now staying with Uncle Louie, who has come down with a bad case of emphysema. Consequently, Daniel moves in with Miyagi for the time being. Piecing together their backstory from the movie, John Kreese and Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith) served together in the U.S. Army during the 1970s, and Kreese saved Silver's life on numerous occasions. Terry, also a karate master, struck it rich and purchased the Cobra Kai dojo, making Kreese the sensei. Now that the dojo has fallen on hard times, thanks to their defeat in the All-Valley Tournament, Terry has decided to help Kreese get revenge on Daniel and Miyagi. The mansion used in Karate Kid III for the Terry Silver scenes is the Ennis House, located in Los Angeles, California. It was originally designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and built in 1924. The most extensive filming of the mansion was done in the 1959 Vincent Price movie, House on Haunted Hill (1959). Since then, it has appeared in a number of movies and television shows such as The Day of the Locust (1975) (1975), Blade Runner (1982) (1982), The Thirteenth Floor (1999) (1999), and the Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1996) TV series. It's the day of the All Valley Tournament. Daniel is fighting to defend his title. Cobra Kai is represented by Mike "Bad Boy" Barnes (Sean Kanan). After a rousing speech about honesty, compassion, and fair play (and a large donation) by Dynatox president Terry Silver, the match begins. The plan is for Mike to win a point then lose a point, keeping the score 0-0 until the sudden death round when he is to pulverize Daniel. Mike wins the first point but then loses it when he kicks Daniel in the family jewels. Mike wins another point with a blow to Daniel's ribs but then loses it when he fires off an illegal punch between rounds. Mike now begins to get some hard punches into Daniel, getting no points for them but reducing Daniel to mush. Daniel is fearful of going on, but Mr Miyagi reminds him to focus. They enter the sudden death round, and Daniel both regains his focus and confounds Mike by beginning to perform the kata. He proceeds to flip Mike to the ground and punch him down, thus winning the All Valley Tournament again. In the final scenes, Cobra Kais throw away their shirts, and Daniel and Mr Miyagi hug each other. According to their bios, Macchio was born on 4 November 1961 and Griffith on 18 March 1962, making Macchio four months older than Griffith. Macchio was 27 at the time of filming.
