Max and 99 are in London to investigate the reappearance of Jack the Ripper. The owner of Duval's Cave of Wax has developed a formula to bring his wax characters to life.
"Get Smart" wastes a good villain in Duval (Marcel Hillaire) in part two by turning him into an idiot. After using horrible killers like Jack the Ripper and the Wolfman (George Sawaya), when he gets Max trapped in his museum, who does he turn to in order to catch the secret agent? Laurel (Jim MacGeorge) and Hardy (EJ Schuster) and W.C. Fields. Also, the wax Hitler that Max replaces MAY be his stuntman or stand-in, but full face, he doesn't look much like either 86 or Hitler.

99 gets a chance to try out her feminine wiles on Duval as she picks him up at a restaurant, but the scene feels flat and forced. Don;t know if they were trying to test out the idea of sending Max and 99 to other countries with this two-parter, but it didn't work. Part two is very funny. The Wolfman "attack" on Max is classic as Max thinks he is just a hippy guest and complains to management.

The bits with Laurel and Hardie, WC Field, Hitler, etc, are well done.

Is it just me or is there a 1966 Batman-feel to season five? I first picked this up with the Vincent Price episode and then again with House Of Max. Our heroes get trapped in colourful death traps and I almost expect to hear "tune in tomorrow, same Bat-time, same Bat-channel".

Maybe a touch of Lost In Space as well? Marcel Hilaire (Duval) was hanging around another mad-house like this (with frozen criminals) in Lost In Space's The Condemned Of Space (1967).
