Barney (Stallone), Christmas (Statham) and the rest of the team comes face-to-face with Conrad Stonebanks (Gibson), who years ago co-founded The Expendables with Barney. Stonebanks subsequently became a ruthless arms trader and someone who Barney was forced to kill... or so he thought. Stonebanks, who eluded death once before, now is making it his mission to end The Expendables -- but Barney has other plans. Barney decides that he has to fight old blood with new blood, and brings in a new era of Expendables team members, recruiting individuals who are younger, faster and more tech-savvy. The latest mission becomes a clash of classic old-school style versus high-tech expertise in the Expendables' most personal battle yet.
Barney Ross and his team are sent on another job but first he rescues a member of the team who's been in prison for 8 years. After doing that he heads off to do the job: get an arms dealer named Mins, but when Barney sees the man, he recognizes him as Stonebanks, another team member who went rogue whom Barney thought he took care of. He then mortally wounds one of Barney's men. Barney would then be approached by a man named Drummer who's with the CIA, who tells him, he wants Mins or Stonebanks. Barney decides to sever all ties with his men and recruits 4 young people to help him get Stonebanks. And they get him and are bringing him back when his people attack them and Barney gets away. Stonebanks calls him telling him, if he wants his people back come and get them. Barney's willing to go alone but his old team joins him.
Another year, another expendables movie. People who'll complain that the movie falls short of their expectations, expect the unexpected. This movie follows in the footsteps of the prequels with the violence toned down a bit cause of the PG13 rating. Mind blowing action, check... lots of one-liners, check, middle-age-actors-trying-to-prove-they-still-got- it, check, believable effects, check, great plot, hmmmmmmm what do u expect? Enjoy the ride for what it is and don't take it too seriously and you will be entertained.

Kudos to Stallone for keeping it going and I hope the movie is a success cause like it or not, we need these guys to remind us of all the awesome movies they did it their heydays. Antonio Banderas is fun to watch, Ford is his usual self, Snipes gives a good performance, Gibson plays the villain part as best as he could given the script and the newbies played their part well.

Expect the Expected. I was a huge fan of the first two, in fact, I saw them a few times in theatres before buying their DVDs. The big stars, big explosions, over the top action, it's like Stallone was giving something back to the 80s and 90s kids who grew up watching his movies. This time around, it's more of a Lifetime movie of the week, complete with A-Team TV show violence, in a washed down PG-13 kiddie movie. Stallone has just gotten greedy. The explanation on the PG-13 rating is that he wants to expand the movie to a broader audience---in other words more money!

While I wouldn't say this movie completely sucks, it just isn't that good. The first one was a complete action feast the fans have been missing from old school action stars, unlike the weak movies that midget Tom Cruise has been putting out. The second one, in my opinion is the best of the series. The inside jokes and cameos or past action stars were all having fun and the energy showed!!

This time around the team adds Wesley Snipes, Harrison Ford, and Mel Gibson. Unfortunately none of them are given anything interesting to do. Harrison Ford looks like he's just here to pay some bills and collect a paycheck. Wesley Snipes spends his time trying to live up to Jason Statham as the second box office draw in the movie. Only Mel Gibson is the most interesting new character and the most fun to watch. His villain is compatible to Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight but he's wasted and not enough of him is shown. This sucks too because had he been given more screen time to channel his inner Mad Mel, this movie might have been saved.

So what's the movie about? The movie opens with The Expendables breaking Wesley Snipes out of jail on a moving train. Turns out Wesley was one of the original Expendables along with Mel Gibson. There's a joke made about Snipes real life prison past and other than that no real fun. The action scenes are feeble and the overblown stunts are a time killer. Enter the new mission, an arms dealer who turns out to be Mel who Stallone thought he killed way back when. Turns out Mel co-founded The Expendables with Stallone. Mel then wounds Terry Crews but instead of finishing him off, he just shoots him a few times but lets him live. Of course this sets the tone for the rest of the movie. There's some jarring from new CIA liaison Harrison Ford, replacing Bruce Willis as the new CIA contact. A knife fighting show with Snipes and Statham, somewhere in all this Arnold shows up with Jet Li, Kelsey Grammar, Rhonda Rousey, and a bunch of those kids from that sissy vampire movie Twilight get dressed up to play action hero. The action goes beyond hokey, particularly from 50-something Antonio Banderas who's supposed to be some acrobatic super soldier. Some how for 5'9 160 Banderas, the thugs seem to drop at some of silliest fight choreography this side of Ralph Macchio in those dumb Karate Kid movies of the 80s. Anyway, as you can expect there's a final fight between Gibson and Stallone. The movie is hokey, feeble, and missing the fun of the first two. It actually comes across as sort of a kid friendly cartoon. This is one I wouldn't throw good money on and wait for DVD. It is forgettable fluff, but well-delivered, and it suggests that they'll be able to keep making these as long as they can prop up the cast, and with the younger generation making a decent showing this time out, they may even be able to hand it off when the time comes.
With the Expedables team dwindled down to a mere five old members—Lee Christmas (Jason Statham), Gunner Jensen (Dolph Lundgren), Toll Road (Randy Couture), and Hale Caesar (Terry Crews), who is currently tied up in the hospital after being shot down during their last mission—team leader Barney Ross (Sylvester Stallone) puts together a new, younger team, consisting of computer hacker Thorn (Glen Powell), nightclub bouncer and close combat expert Luna (Ronda Rousey), weapons expert Marlito "Mars" (Victor Ortiz), and John Smilee (Kellan Lutz). Barney's new team is charged by Operations Officer Drummer (Mel Gibson) to capture alive former Expendable Conrad Stonebanks (Mel Gibson) to stand trial at The Hague for war crimes. However, when the new team becomes compromised, the old team plus new team member Felipe "Galgo" Silva (Antonio Banderas) band together to rescue them. The Expendables 3 is the third movie in The Expendables franchise, preceded by The Expendables (2010) (2010) and The Expendables 2 (2012) (2012). The series is a tribute to action films and actors from the 1980s and 90s. The screenplay was written by Sylvester Stallone, Cerighton Rothenberger, and Katrin Benedikt. The Expendables 4 is in the works, with a release date set for 2018. Barney left his old crew once he realized that Stonebanks was still alive. The reason is that Stonebanks nearly killed Caesar and that brought back memories of what happened when he first tried to kill Stonebanks and lost three of his original crew. Barney was compelled to find and kill Stonebanks, but he didn't want to risk the lives of his current crew because they were his family. So Barney contacted Bonaparte (Kelsey Grammer) to help him round up some "young guns" who weren't afraid to die because this crew would have no attachment to Barney, nor would he have any attachment to them. So if any of them died, it would be easier to take. However, once Barney's new team is captured by Stonebanks, Barney couldn't let them die at his hands. First off, this would mean Stonebanks wins, which Barney couldn't allow, and two because Barney actually does care and just because he was willing to risk his life and theirs, doesn't mean he's willing to allow them to be slaughtered. When another wave of Stonebanks' reinforcements arrive, Barney orders the team to head for the roof where Drummer is waiting in the helicopter. Trench (Arnold Schwarzenegger) and Yin Yang (Jet Li) clear the roof, and the entire team hops on the copter, leaving Barney to go hand-to-hand with Stonebanks until he finally gets the upper hand and shoots Stonebanks dead. Meanwhile, the battery has dropped to 0%, and the explosives start going off. With the building collapsing under him, Barney races to the roof and just manages to catch onto the helicopter as it takes off. With Barney still hanging there, the copter flies away. Later, the team is partying in a bar. They toast Caesar, who has made a full recovery. Caesar gives back Barney's good luck ring, Drummer admits that he hasn't had so much fun in years, and Galgo goes ecstatic when Barney finally welcomes him as one of the team. Christmas and Doc (Wesley Snipes) throw knives at the dartboard, both hitting the bull's eye, but Doc's knife falls off. The new recruits then go onstage and sing karaoke to Neil Young's "Old Man". In the final scene, Christmas tells Barney that he looks like a "proud, demented father." Barney replies, "You could have skipped the demented part," as he watches on with obvious pride. The film does not explicitly say what happened to CIA agent Church (Bruce Willis). Barney mentions that Church gave him information on where to find Doc. Drummer merely states that "he is out of the picture," though the way he says it implies Church may have died/been killed. In reality, actor Bruce Willis was offered three million dollars for four days of work and he turned it down, stating he wanted four million dollars, so he was replaced by Harrison Ford.
