A father and his son attempt to bring in an assassin to the authorities, but his dangerous associates have other plans.
The widower teacher and baseball and basketball coach Ray Keene lost his wife that died of cancer two years ago. When his teenage son Chris Keene is caught by the police smoking pot, Ray invites him to hike and camp in the woods to increase their bonds. Meanwhile, the mercenary assassin Frank Carden is arrested by FBI after a car accident in the middle of a contract to kill an important target. While Frank is traveling on the road escorted by three FBI agents, his men try to rescue him, but his car falls into a river and is carried by the drift. Ray helps the wounded agent and the cuffed Frank to leave the river, and feels responsible to deliver Frank to justice. The former policeman and stubborn Ray does not listen to Frank's proposal to leave him alone and travel through the woods with Chris, trying to find a safe place. But Frank's men and an undercover agent in the team are chasing the group with different lethal intentions.
I wish there were a way to give negative rankings. The picture should be docked a few for the simple reason of exposing two fine actors to such mediocrity.

I rented the movie on the strength of John Cusack's usually keen eye for a good script. But now this, combined with "Must Like Dogs" makes me wonder if he is even reading the scripts before committing to a job. How both he and Morgan Freeman managed to get themselves mixed up in what, generously, is a "made for TV" movie is disheartening.

The only redeeming quality of the movie was that it gave me the opportunity to entertain myself reading the creative reviews written by other disappointed viewers.

I am not sure why this one stands out among the many unbelievable moments in the movie, but how exactly does someone watch their boyfriend get shot and die, and then continues hiking as if the guy was a complete stranger? Heck, I've been more shaken up driving by dead animals on the side of the road! The premises for this movie is set high. I mean, a thriller starring the talented Morgen Freeman and John Cusack. And I will say that the movie is quite good and entertaining.

This movie is about Ray (played by John Cusack) who is out in the woods hiking with his son when they come across Frank (played by Morgan Freeman) who is handcuffed to a dying policeman. Frank is a killer set out to do a contract job. With Frank's associates searching the woods for their boss, Ray and his son must track treacherous terrain with dangerous men in their footsteps.

There is a great progress to the movie, and it is constantly up in high gear. There is a lot of thrill and excitement in the movie. And there is a good continuity throughout the entire movie.

With Morgan Freeman and John Cusack in the lead roles you know very well what you are in for. And right on the money, they deliver where it counts. And they make it well-worth watching the movie.

If you enjoy a good cat-and-mouse thriller then "The Contract" is definitely something that you should check out. It was thoroughly entertained by this movie from start till end.
