President Hassan's actions become paranoid and Dana's ex faces capture, while Renee and Jack kick open a hornet's nest among New York's Russian underworld.
Despite averting the assassination attempt on peacekeeping leader Omar Hassan, Jack Bauer's day intensifies when he is forced to go deeper undercover to secure the unsecured enriched nuclear materials. As international delegates reconvene at the United Nations, President Taylor's goodwill comes into question and CTU races against time to assist with the mission.
Guided by Dana, Kevin and his friend Nick Coughlin bust into the NYPD evidence locker; though Nick spends enough time window-shopping that a patrol officer almost catches them, Nick beats the officer with a baseball bat and the two escape. Dana is rattled by the incident, and both Arlo and Hastings notice her preoccupation. Omar Hassan continues to round up people who may be complicit in his brother's plot. When Tarin tries to reason with him, Hassan thanks him for taking on the moderating role his wife once played, but then has him arrested. Kayla, who is romantically involved with Tarin, decides to confront her father herself. Vladimir attempts to contact Bazhaev about the nuclear rods, so Bazhaev sends men to kill Vladimir's group, intent on keeping the deal secret. When Renee nags Vladimir to continue calling, Vladimir gets angry and attacks Renee; she stabs him 18 times, and Jack once when he attempts to intervene. After some bandages and a heart-to-heart, Jack convinces Renee to ignore her doubts and take the position that she acted in self-defense. Jack and Renee turn Laitanin's files over to CTU for investigation, as every phone call Laitanin made is a potential lead, but Bazhaev's hit squad gets there first. While Renee hides, "Mr. Meier" allows himself to be captured with the intention of leading CTU to Bazhaev; but by simple expedient of evacuating Jack through an underground tunnel, his captors get away unnoticed.

In summary,here the events that happened during that hour:

1.Tarin Faroush briefs President Omar Hassan on the status of the crackdown in Kamistan against the dissenters in Farhad's faction. Later, Tarin tells Kayla Hassan about the extreme measures that her father is using to find the traitors. Before they can do anything, Tarin is arrested by Nabeel on the President's orders; Kayla promises to speak to her father to help him.

2.President Allison Taylor tells Louis Dalton about the situation with the nuclear rods Farhad is trying to buy from Red Square.

3.Dana Walsh helps Kevin Wade and his partner break into an NYPD evidence locker. They manage to abscond with several hundred thousand dollars, but not before Nick Coughlin severely beats the patrolman on duty.

4.Vladimir Laitanan calls Sergei Bazhaev asking about nuclear materials for sale. Bazhaev denies any knowledge, then warns Josef that somebody knows about the rods.

5.Renee Walker presses Laitanan to keep searching for a contact who knows about the deal, but he refuses, striking her in the face. In a fit of rage, Renee stabs and kills Laitanan.

6.A group of Russians arrives at Laitanan's garage. Jack Bauer presents himself to them as a potential buyer, so that they will take him back to the real dealers of the nuclear rods. When Cole Ortiz arrives, Renee tells him what happened, but CTU reports that they can find no sign of their departure from the air.

Things heat up in this episode especially after President Omar Hassan of fictional Islamic Republic of Kamistan becomes paranoid to the point that he intends more violence.It gives US President Allison Taylor to do some peaceful actions to take place.Also,we get to see Renee and Jack undercover for Laitanan and does some actions to lead them to the dealers of nuclear weapons.Nothing refreshing and original happens here for the most violent season - Day 8 - of 24 wherein we see Renee stab Vladimir Laitanan 18 times. This is the first time I've ever written a review about an episode of 24. Unfortunately, what drove me to do this was not how good this episode was, but how poor it was.

Let me just start this review by saying it was one of the worst episodes in 24's history. I love 24, so episodes like this get to me more than just a casual viewer.

The number one reason this episode was terrible was it's plot and its pointlessness in the season. The story involving Jack and Renee had Jack sitting in a room for the better part of the hour so you barely even see him, or Renee for that matter, who sits around Vladimir who is making phone calls.

Their story finally picks up at the end, when *SPOILER* Renee stabs Vlad as well as Jack! Now that was awesome scene, and Jack getting stabbed was one of the biggest "Holy crap!" moments in 24 - however, after the ad break he just gets back up and starts running around! I know Jack is tough but wouldn't it have been more dramatic if it was actually realistic??

So everyone else's story this hour was so terribly boring - I just didn't care about any of them. Jenny/Dana's country hick boyfriend gets WAY too much screen time, they get as much as Jack! By the way, was it any surprise that they would just HANG AROUND for half an hour by which convenient time a cop comes along, well duh! They were even told this but they're just THAT STUPID. Why should I care about people that stupid? The ploy with the water pistol? That's just ridiculous. I really hope this story goes away, but now that they beat up a cop, I can tell the writers are gonna milk it for all its worth.

President Hassan's story is slightly interesting - it's interesting to see what's happening to him psychologically, where he's become paranoid of everyone around him, I really didn't care for the story of the agent who is (surprise! not) in love with his daughter and now in deep trouble. Who is this guy? Why should I care about him?

Finally, the scenes with the Russians I felt were only there so the characters could actually be in the episode.

What it comes down to is this: every time we watch a side story, we're sacrificing time from Jack and Renee, who have actual developed & believable characters and a decent story. This is the perfect example of side stories taking over an episode, and/or where the writers couldn't think of anything for Jack/Renee to do. In all seriousness, their story could have been squeezed into the first half hour to bring in more from the next episode - the writers feel like they're really stretching this story out just to cover more episodes.
