Causes of Hair loss in Children & Various Hair loss Diseases

Children are very tender and also tend to have a weak immune system. Not every child will have a super-strong immune system. Hair loss in children at a young age is not common, but it happens to all of them and that too for reasons that are not known. Alopecia is common in children and if you see your child losing even a small amount of hair then it’s high time that you contact the doctor immediately. Children with hair loss can suffer a lot of strain especially when it comes to their looks. So, you must consult a doctor ASAP.


Hormonal Changes & Physiological Hair Loss


Many babies after birth they also suffer from physiological hair loss. This happens mainly due to constant friction which is created between the baby's head and the pillow or due to the stroller. Plus, most of the time the new born child suffers from hormonal changes due which also there is a premature arrest of hair growth or you can say limited hair growth. Children having hair loss need not worry about this, as this doesn’t damage the hair follicles and there can be growth in the coming years. It is not a permanent kind of disease.


Defects and Trichotillomania


Most of the time babies are without hair after birth. The hair doesn’t grow easily. This is because of various kinds of developmental defects like folded skin, congenital epidermolysis, and endocrine disorders. If till 2 years of the age the hair doesn’t grow, then this defect is likely to remain. Then, there are some children having hair loss mainly because of trichotillomania. It is a rare symptom in which the child tends to wrap their finger around the hair and play with it, or may be they become nervous or puzzled. But, if this problem is not treated fast then the child may get habitual, and also it can leave bald patches on their head.


Hair loss Diseases


If there is a lot of baldness in children then, the reason for such is neurogenic alopecia a kind of partial baldness. It occurs due to fungal disease. Improper care, nutrient deficiency is the cause for such hair loss in children. Decreased thyroid function can also cause hair loss. Iron-deficiency anemia, avitaminosis, hypothyroidism, and other endocrine diseases, rickets, allergies to food, hair care products, medicines, hormonal misbalance; alopecia; dermatological diseases (ringworm, dermatitis, seborrhea); trichotillomania is a neurological disease are some kinds of hair loss diseases which children suffer from and if some of it is not treated then it can become a habit.
