Basic Things to Remember When Picking a Concealed Carry Backpack

Often carrying a concealed weapon on the person is simply not a choice. When the occasion occurs and they still want their weapon to be near and relatively available, a concealed carry backpack might be a choice. Backpacks equipped for concealed carry provide not only a way of concealing the weapons from their bodies, but also a way of carrying certain items of daily use. Without looking like Quasimodo, it isn't always possible to bring all the weapons they would need on their person when off duty. Or maybe they're a plainclothes officer with a gun safe in their car who may be called in to help an accident.

Here are few things to remember when picking a concealed carry backpack:

  • Versatility: The ideal concealed carrying backpack should be sufficiently lightweight for daily use, while it should be fitted with tactical features to accommodate one or more weapons, plus accessories and additional equipment. Most importantly, with weapons manufacturer logos, it does not scream offensive, destroy them all patch loops covering every square inch.
  • Style: Choose a suitable bag to match the dress style. If they're in jeans and a T, a messenger or courier bag capable of carrying a laptop might be ideal to blend into their surroundings. Whatever bag they pick, make sure they don't show their weapon or spare mags to display even when they need to access them.
  • Space: When it comes to firearms and spare mags, they need to choose a bag that is designed to carry the firearm and accessories that they want when trouble hits by their side. Depending on how far they want to take it, they may want to add other accessories in addition to their weapons and spare mags. Ensure that the bag they choose has sufficient space to keep everything organized.
  • Accessibility: The bag should securely hold the gun and mags but still offer easy access. Look for a pack with a dedicated pull handle so when the adrenalin starts pumping they don't fumble to find a zipper. Just as they do draw-from-holster, they should practice draw-from-bag until they create muscle memory that can save their lives.
  • Disguise: Going back to the officer in plainclothes, they might need to run down the street with a patrol rifle pulled from the safe weapons of their vehicle. Some may carry a full-size patrol rifle with inserted mag along with a handful of spare mags and other supportive gear.
