A government agent trains Cody Banks in the ways of covert operations that require younger participants.
To his family and friends, Cody Banks is a typical teen--he loves to skateboard, hates math, and feels like a complete idiot around girls. But Cody's got a secret--he's actually part of a secret teen CIA program. Cody's living every boy's dream life--he can drive like a stuntman, has an incredible arsenal of cool gadgets, and his agency mentor, Ronica Miles, is totally hot. But Cody's training is put to the test when he's sent to pose as a prep school student and befriend fellow teen Natalie Connors in order to gain access to her father--a scientist unknowingly developing a fleet of deadly nanobots for the evil organization ERIS. From runaway cars and high-speed snowboard chases to a spectacular final mountaintop showdown, Cody has to use everything he's learned to prove himself as an agent and stop ERIS from completing their mission--and, maybe, even get the girl.
This was a fun movie, very much a teen James Bond, with some wonderful tips to the original, and even spoofs. For example, at the end, his phone rings with the ring from the Flint movies. And in one scene during the movie, you hear in the background, "Will the owner of the silver Aston Martin please move it" ;-) There's even tips to other classics, like a prisoner wearing "AR1138", likely a reference to Lucas's student film THX1138. But the movie itself, while not taking itself too seriously (holographic cell phones ala Star Wars), has a solid story (as much as any action pic) that's not overly predictable and takes you for a good ride. If you don't take it any more seriously than they do, you'll enjoy it as much as any Bond flick. I like Malcolm in the Middle, and also thought that Big Fat Liar was better than expected, and I'm looking forward to more from Frankie Muniz, though I thought Arnold Vosloo was pretty much wasted. He could have been a much more serious villain and made this picture even better.
above all this movie is fun. i like that they got frankie muniz and hillary duff who are both at the top of there game and popularity and not some 19 to 22 year old trying to play at 16 year old. they look young and thats whats great about this movie. they have young looking kid doing all this amazing stuff. and yeah the premise is chessy and typical but thats what movies are for. your suppose to go to a movie and get something that might not happen in your evreyday life. the only problem tat i kinda had with the movie was Angie Harmon. i think she was wonderful in the film but her costumes to me didnt fit the character nor a pg movie. above all franke and hillary have a great pressence and chemistry on the screen and i think there both udderly charming and great.
The generic intrigue and chase scenes take over, leaving poor Muniz at the mercy of stunt doubles and chintzy special effects.
